need some tips for tunning

Ok I got the car wired and running. The cars I normally tune run race fuel and watet meth so detonation is minimal and if it happens I just knock the timming back a little. This is the first 93 tune I'm doing and I have my fuel conservative (rich) tuned around. The timing is base it only detonates if I do a pull in 3rd start at 2000 and when I hit 3000 @100% load it'll knock how do I fix it? Datalog and find the kpa n rpm it does it and richen it? I'm pretty sure that's all it needs but the set up is big for a 93 setup. I just want comfirmation on this. I'm new to tunning I understand how to get power via timing/ a/f and I have a lot of tunning books but opinion are always appreciated. At thst exact moment its at 13.7 a/f factory timing .

tuning is like black magic. when i used to race my N/A civic, i ran crazy timing plus a 14.0 afr with 12:1cr...this was on 100 octane unleaded. its easy to tune on a dyno because basically youll start to lose power once you put in too much timing. for me, it was a trial and error with reading plugs and listening for knock.

now, ive been told that afr for N/A is usually 13.0 and for F/I its 11.5-12 as a rule of thumb. for me, i saw better results with a tune most would consider a time bomb. honestly, i ran that tune for years and never blew the motor.

tuning top end WOT is pretty straight foward, but for bottom end and daily driving its tricky. for the most part, i tried to avoid high load at low rpms just because it was hard to tune (as you mentioned 100% throttle at 2-3000rpms.)

Its a civic h22 swap 57mm 3psi at full boost at 8000 I'm at 11.8a/f .most cars I leave base tuned to 3200 then add timing and fuel. but those cars launch at 4000 and c16 with meth. so I normally look up what degree lambda is on that engine and start a few degrees off and make passes til it detonates or et slows then once I get fastest timing set I start leaning examples full boost 8000rpm 11.8 to 12.2 a/r or until detonation I try to say away from detonation as much as possible. I've never has one detonate that low I guess all I can really tune one this car is a/f timing might not be possible until he adds meth

What tuning device are you using? There might be some members that have experience with it.

11.8 AFR is good. Since you are on 93, start a little more rich, as it won't hurt and is safer than the other way. Start with low 11's then work your way back up.

Sounds like you need to remove some more timing as well in those affected areas/cells.

Just retard it, then keep doing passes while raising the timing in those areas one degree at a time.

Its a hondata or w/e he's been driving after I set it up then he called me and told me it detonated around 3000 at wot only in 3rd and 5th I'm gonna data log and find that kpa and load and richen it up I was wanting to make sure I was doing it right I'm still new but I read books and forums all the time about tuning and this one is the first base timing tuned car I've never had one detonate at low rpm but I want to keep the low rpms near 14.7 -13 for gas mileage I didn't think detonation would accrue at the same load but in different gears all I did was 2 2nd gear pulls and tuned. so what he's stating about 3rd&5th is y I'm confused

As load increases fuel needs must follow.

If he is in low RPMs and High load, that would be the first problem. Such as cruising at speed in 5th, then punching it. He should down shift.

From your standpoint, independent of RPM, as load gets closer to 100% it the fuel should richen up accordingly from 14.7 to 12.5 @ 100%. As load surpasses to whatever over 100% it should be around 11.5.

He could be at 5k rpms but 20% and could be at 14.7. Or 5k and 150% load and should be 11.5.

Makes sense?

Right I just don't know why its not doing it in 4th. I know what you're saying go in and richen the cell at that load and kpa and a few around it to be safe but I wasn't 100% sure if richening it would hurt gas but now realizing what I said I forgot I can tune that rpm for that load I feel dumb now. Thanks for the help
