    OK guys heres my dilemma,

As some of you know im going to race, which first off I have to have a stock 4.0L to do so. I will not race for probably 2 years when I stop traveling for work and I have the time.

Now in the mean time I'm looking for power. 400+ roughly.

A URD mark III will get me over 400 HP, I will have to upgrade some pistons and crank and will probably get headers, intake new controller, harness , clutch. Will cost me im guessing all said and done 7500 ish before pistons and crank. if i work a deal on some one maybe less. Now with that, i would probably beat on that then pull it off before I decide to race.

    or

I can save parts and after im ready to move up in race class put an LS3 roughly 11k for a turnkey for 430HP. of course all of the above items will be needed as well so im looking ~ 15k all said and done for that. Will require new mounting we will push the engine back for better center of gravity.

Can i salvage most of the money out of the supercharger if i decide to sell the supercharger?

Im thinking i can get a few bucks out of the stock engine and tranny if i decide to do a full swap.

What do you guys think is the best option?

Im leaning towards waiting for the LS3 opportunity. and deal with having the stock motor for a few years.

but if i can take just a small hit on a supercharger then I may just do that in the time being...

I already posted on XRU, we will see what info they give out.

    Thoughts?

I suppose I could start acquiring parts an slowly build and LS. probably get it done for cheaper than a turn ket would set me back

The ls swap would be cheaper than that. You could do a lq9 swap their 410hp and out of a 2500 gas. Its a ls based block vortec heads if you find one with aluminium heads its a ls2. Their 6.0L.

I would love to have 400HP (or close) out of my 4.0L motor and still be street legal. Think this is possible? The URD site does not list a SC for my 2012 Tacoma motor.

LS motor all day. I assume your racing off-road?
The V8 will have more available torque at all times, the aftermarket is CRAWLING with parts, and for about 25% the cost of the GR1 stuff due to competition between manufacturers.

Besides the LS will have way less moving parts, thats a good thing when your needing reliability on a cheaper budget.

I am so glad I did mine. Every time I turn the key I get a stiffie!
Like Colby said the LQ4 can be found all day and in the LS forums there are guys using stock motors running fucking 9s in the quarter mile (4wd with big ass turbo!)

If you search around on the LS1Tech forums you will see the LQ4 is the go to motor for value vs. strength, it only weighs 100 lb more than the Aluminum block version, but can be found all day long in the junkyards, and the money you save over the aluminum block motor can go towards engine candy!!

I have a lq4 in my 1500 with 100shot on it and I destroy a lot of people red light to red light. When I blow it up I have a lq9 bottom end to use for the extra cubic inches I want so I can get a turbocharged 9sec tow rig to tow my 8sec Tacoma

Pick up a GM crate LS3 for 6k and be done with it (maybe 7k with harness and pedal). 3k Turbo 400.

Or you can get a used LS1 and put a LS7 intake and cam for around 4k and buy a stand

MY one car with 348 to the wheels in the stock LS1:

    Mason truck I drove with a turn-key 5.3 :

Old truck with a 3.4 superchaged and URD 7th injector:

If you do go the LS route I have a ton of experience with sourcing all of the little parts needed to make them work, just let me know. Honestly your best bet would drop a supercharger on the truck and call it a day. But if you actually intend to race motor restriciton will be the biggest thing.
