When mine gets older it's part of the plan (not under warranty). If you can get more duration on the intake and exhaust, than you've increased the amount of air and fuel you're sucking in. If you combine that with larger valves and a nice port and polish you're creating reliable power.

URD put together a naturally aspirated kit for the 2nd Gen Tacoma that looked pretty promising. I believe it included a replacement cam in the kit but it looked pretty promising. Wasn't cheap though... Depending on the cost, forced induction should be considered.

    Yes, there's that.

    These are stupid expensive: http://ttcperformanceproducts.com/1g4ca.html

I'd call LC Engineering to see what they offer. They have a robust shop and do a lot of machining in-house to save on cost. They are the Toyota power gurus.

LCE makes em for Pickups. I would assume they might for Tacomas as well. Give them a call. The gains you see depends on what you're willing to pay/do. If you just swap a cam vs. porting and tuning things up, who knows. Cam's part of the plan with the Pickup, among other things.

It's tough when you get into the motor. Not enough money on my money tree!

    This.
Dezod.com has actually started selling as much or more for the 1GR than LCE, lately. Worked quite a bit with them, as well as some others, to make this possible.

They are currently building a 1GR with rods, pistons, head gaskets, and head studs. Also have another getting ready to be Darton MID sleeved, Brian Crower stroker kit, and other similarities to mine.

The cams will cost between $1600-1800 and take around 2 weeks to have made. Once you send YOUR cams in. You can send another set in, but it would require you to carefully check and possibly install new shim buckets.

Installing intake cams requires the removal of the timing cover. Unless you are Gene Grey.

Rumors are that you can increase up to 30 hp N/A. Those are rumors though, as I have never seen a dyno chart for N/A or F/I.

Nobody is as extreme as you bro, but we can all dream! No doubt in my mind that a proper top end build will yield 30+ on our motors. Cost is the killer.
