Yes, mine is the black one...we just took the top off the back.

Perhaps I didn't explain clearly, my son got my uber reliable 2010 Taco with TRD Supercharger, Catback, OME lift with heavy rear leafs, KMC wheels, Road Armor front and rear bumpers, and 285/75/16s...yeah, he better thank his lucky stars to have such a badass truck as a 16 yo.

I want to build another (or have one built). If I can get another 50-75hp over what my black truck has, I think I'll be happy. The trick is I want it reliable, just like my other two blown Tacos have been.

I guess I need to call URD to discuss exactly what I am looking for.

I have seen you around a few times. mostly out in west knox/turkey creek area.

and idk if the 5.7 would even fit in the 2nd gen engine bay. my brother has a 5.7 tundra and that engine is huge! quite a bit bigger then the 4.0, so idk if it would even fit.

Yes, call URD and talk it over with Gadget. You might even be able to drive to his shop, accomplish the install, make some dyno runs and see exactly where the power lays before leaving.

Honestly though, it doesn't sound like cost is a major concern here, you should also contact Allen Phillips Racing in Texas. They may have some experience in the engine swap using oem Toyota items, and if not can no doubt build HP also.

Spoke with Gadget yesterday, and got a good education. No longer interested in the 5.7, but I will definitely be adding a URD Supercharger Kit.

I have a 2jz in my 01. While I'm doing my new bottom end rebuild we put a 434 in just for a quick race since I run a th400 trans. Just like the rest said a little fab experience and basic wiring and you can run anything you want. We also have a nitrous lq9 we're saving for a mustang. Stick with the Toyota engine if you do a swap.

Instead of a 5.7 I would consider a 4.7 swap which should fit but then you would have to get a harness for your electrical hookups. Would be a lot of work but def understand wanting a v8 in the Tacoma. Hell I wish they offered it. Sure you can get good horsepower out of the v6 tweaking it but its never gonna sound like a v8. 4.6 or 4.7 w a supercharger would be a hell of a combo in the Tacoma.

There are a lot if guys on forums that like to brag about swaps. A 4.7 is a great swap. I'm sure there is a guy on one of the Tacoma forums that could make you a plug and play harness for cheap if you don't won't to do it. Or you can buy an aftermarket ecu and harness and be able to tune it for any future mods.
