My gas mileage sucked with the Volant and overall the truck felt like it was slower than with the stock intake. Frankly it's garbage. This was for the 2TR 4Cyl.

The map I sent you should work great with that amount of induced MAF sensor error.

Run it for a couple of days and recheck the trims.

    Thanks Gadget!

installed the calibrator, and am in the process of trying to lad the map as i type this. R4 kept crashing though, so i had to grab another laptop to see if that was the issue. fingers crossed.

I was looking at the various versions of the Volant and it looks like in some of them they made a point of reducing the tubing diameter right at the MAF sensor to match the factory intake...

...while in other versions they didn't. You can tell this is oversized because they needed to use a reducing coupling to mate the larger diameter tube to the throttle body.

Intake tubing diameter can be anything else, everywhere else... except right at the MAF.

neiether the old, nor the new versions for the tacoma (4.0L) have the reduction right at the MAF sensor.

It's hard to make out the second picture, but how is it different from the earlier version?

not much. looks like the bends are a little sharper in the new one, but that allowed them to keep the bends further from the MAF sensor. whatever it did, aparently it was enough to solve the lean issue.

I haven't had any issues with mine. I have the newest generation for the 2012-13 with scoop and i haven't thrown any codes or anything. unfortunately, i didn't get a scanguage until AFTER i installed my intake so i don't know if it's running leaner than before or if i dropped mpg's but my tacoma is still averaging 19.3 mpg with 50/50 city and highway driving which i think is pretty good.

Can you snap a pic of your intake tube

This pic of the new design 2013 Volant intake for the Tacoma 4.0 clearly shows that they reduced the diameter at the MAF sensor.

So they did resolve the lean running issue with a new improved model. The diameter at the sensor is a fixed value unless you readjust the electronic parameters.

Mine uses exactly the same approach... oversized except at the sensor.

"old style" in post number 46 is a picture of mine.

i saw a bunch of pictures of the new one like what you just posted, but i wasn't 100% sure it was fro a tacoma because of the big thing sticking off the right side of tha air box. just threw me off becasue i didn't see it in any of the under the hood photos

I got the pic from carid.com. They list it as a 2013 Toyota Tacoma 4.0 Volant intake #38240. I'll guess that longer intake extension requires removal of the stock resonator chamber air horn in the fender well on the other side of the hole.

are you talking about the 90 degree turn down in the fenderwell? the old version removed that too. to my knowledge, all aftermarket intakes do so. to keep it, you'd have to cut it off the stock intake.

Yes. it's part #5 in this picture. Although I could only find a picture of the 2.7. The 4.0 may very well be different.

yeah, i know the part now.

that comes off with every aftermarket intake though, even those that don't have any reported problems of runing lean.

Yeah, it's just a matter of fitment and has nothing to do with the lean issue.

Uh... That one with the MAF Reduction is for a 4cyl tacoma. It's not for the 4.0l

Not sure which one you're looking at, but this one with the MAF reduction is for the 2013 Tacoma 4.0 Volant part #38240.
