Power Steering Issues - 2010 Tacoma TRD

I have recently started to experience an issue with the power steering on my 2010 TRD 4x4 Off-Road. On my way home yesterday, going into a right hand turn on a highway offramp, the steering became very stiff and then back to normal. This has continued and at times is completely normal and other times it is very stiff at certain points in a turn. The fluid level is on the mark and does not appear to have any condensation or water in it. I also jacked the front end today, nothing looks obvious and with no weight on the front end, the steering is free and normal. Once back on the ground and weight on the front end, it does the same thing. Would this be the power steering pump or the rack and pinion? Or is there any way to tell before I start buying parts and replacing? There are 41,000 miles on my truck…

Any help would be greatly appreciated…

Thanks,

John

Get some penetrating lubricant and spray the living shit out of the steering shaft u-joints down under the left front of the frame.

^^My money is on the lower intermediate shaft. Spaying it may loosen it up....for a while. And then it will come back. If the needles in the bearings of its u-joint are sufficiently rusted, it may just seize. Replacement is the only option IMHO.
