Sweet baby J, what sort of driving do you do? I get at least 400 km a tank (250 miles) with the Supercharger in the winter running premium. I usually get way better than that per tank, 400 km is my bare minimum with mostly city driving and hitting stop lights all day.

Maybe stop buying your gas at Esso/Huskey/Independents and buy at Shell where they don't add a ton of Ethanol to make there premium on the cheap? Our trucks were not designed to utilize Ethanol properly. If you don't have the supercharger you don't need Premium!

Only 3 gas stations where i live . $1.70/litre is average
Its the warm ups that kill my mileage .Truck has to run for a minimum of 15 minutes before she will move . If i try to move without warming the truck , i have no power steering ,no upshift ,and no windshield to see through.
I could probably force the truck to move when its that cold but can guarentee i will be doing damage

at a fuel flow rate of 1 gal per hour (which is prolly a low estimate at those temps at start up) 15 mins a day= about $1.75 in wasted fuel at that price, thats $638.75 a year for the mathematically challenged. maybe a carport/garage would be a good mpg mod for u as well

At $638 / year , you could pay off your garage fuel savings mod in about 40 years

You could also put the garage on wheels so he could tow it to his job site to keep the truck warm for when he starts it up to go home :)

Wow! In Southern Alberta we only pay around $1/L in the winter. I have to use premium due to POWA (s/c) but even then I'm still usually paying less than $1.20/L. I have noticed a significant difference in mileage between fuels. Too bad your station selection is so limited. IMHO Shell 91>Petro 94>Coop 91>Husky 91>Costco 91>Esso 91 in Canada. I usually use Coop 91 since its cheapest after all is said and done, and avoid Esso and Costco because my mileage takes a 2-3 mpg hit using there fuel.

I find as long as properly use my block heater my truck will drive fine with only 30-60 seconds of warm-up. Even from -40 c. Sure I have to be gentle on it for the first few minutes but it's still easily derivable and with the synthetic fluids I use help negate any risk of insufficient lubrication in cold temps. Are you getting a frozen windshield on the inside? I find that as long as I breathe through my noise I don't fog up the window to bad.

BTW a little off topic but you're the guy who was writing about not using Toyota fluids in the Transmission of 2nd gens. What do you recommend instead? If you're that guy please PM me, I'm going to change my transmission fluid at 30K because I've been doing a ton of towing this fall.

$117.9 (last premium price I payed) plus $0.09 (PST) does not equal $1.40. I believe the poster lives in the middle of nowhere, where it's okay to rape people on fuel prices because profits are bitching when you're freezing your ass off in the middle of nowhere.

Don't hate Alberta just because our economy drives Canada right now :D. No PST and no additional health care taxes FTW!

its been in the 70's this week and i managed 21.3 mpg again, i did have to haul a couch 20 miles or so which i did notice knocked my instant mpg down about 4 or so, but that wouldnt have hurt my overall average that much since i drove 405 miles on this tank [IMG]
had to drive another 23 miles after the light came on but heres what it reads when u have 265/75/16 and get 21+ mpg

its been unseasonably cold this past week but i still managed 20.6 mpg. it took about 12 mins or so today to get the ait above ambiant today but it eventually got up to around 50* and it was in the low 20's when i left this mornin. im gonna run one or two more tanks like this and then reattach the hose and see if it changes now that it seems that cold weather is really here. (dont laugh at me northerners, the days that dont get above freezing here are cold days)
