What's going to be a better choice for the Tacoma's 4.0L? Not looking for super loud, so leaning to the 19", but I would take a quieter low and mellow over raspy and annoying. Thoughts?

Measured the stock muffler - less than 24", so I ordered the 19". Should arrive Tuesday (Amazon Prime for the win). The local shop said the same part wouldn't ship from Gibson till end of the month.

Ive been looking into the same thing. I have a 2.7 and was wondering which would sound better on mine (the 19" or 24"). From the clips ive heard the gibsons sound good but there isnt much info about what kind of setups they have ( the size and type of mufflers..part #s)
to let you know, of the two the 19" will be louder so if you were looking for something quiter you may wanna consider the 24". Thats what im debating. Ive heard that they are loud but that is just hearsay. I really like the tone they put and I dont mind it being a lil louder I just dont want it to be obnoxious. Maybe someone who has one can chime in. The mufflers im lookin at are the gibson 788700 and 788706.

Got the Gibson muffler installed yesterday, no tip yet (didn't like what they had and the first Amazon order was not quite what I had in mind). Decent rumble in the mid-2000 rpm range, near stock at idle, actually seems to quiet down as the rpm's climb beyond 3k. I'm still only around 500mi on the engine so I'm not laying into the throttle much just yet. We'll see how it sounds in another 500mi and with a tip added.

I got the the gibson muffler as well. It was the 24" long and 6 inch round version (788700). It was installed today and I'm disappointed to say that it sounds pretty much exactly the same. It was even installed backwards which was supposed to make it sound louder it still sounds the same. When I called gibson in cali they told me that it can be installed backwards and that it would just make it louder so when my exhaust guy told me it would flow better and sound better I decided to do so. Well it sounds the same as before even with the backward installation. I did have a small exhaust leak that he welded up today as well so maybe the extra noise from that before is what makes it sound the same a before. Maybe I should have got the 19" version but oh well.
I think Im going to order a different muffler pretty soon as I wanted something louder than what I had before. Im thinking about a borla pro xs. I heard nothing but good things from anyone who has put a borla on.

i was very pleased with my magnaflow muffer, great deep note at start up and idle, very deep at 1500 t0 2500 rpm, and gets pretty agressive past that, a bit of drone but nothing severe.

Yeah, a little Magnaflow would have probably been the better answer, but seemed like the best tone I heard on clips was from a Gibson, maybe it was just the best recording. Off idle it's certainly not stock. I did come to the conclusion tonight that the stock pipe is 2.25, and the Gibson tip I bought was for 2.5, so back to Amazon it goes. Just going to go down the shop and pick out something there.

If you want it loud you have to go to a 14" X 5", but that should be loud all the time....
