So I'm in the market for headers. But being in CA I need C.A.R.B. approved headers which pretty much limits my options to Doug Throley & JBA Looking for opinions on which are best with performance, fitment, quality ect... TIA for your input

No real experience, but I like dealing with LC Engineering. They don't seem to make their own for the 3.4 4WD but carry both Doug Thorley and JBA. On their site, they only list Doug Thorley with EGR, not sure if you need that. Only JBA are listed as CARB approved from what I saw.

Since you are in SoCal, you can go to the DT store in SoCal. JBA is in Utah.

This is true, however there is also a down side to that. If you want the best price going to the manufacture without a resale # is usually not the best way to go. Also if I went that route I would have to pay CA sales tax at DT & I wouldn't at JBA.

honestly man, don't buy shorties. just buy long tubes and switch them out at smog. i had shorties on my tacoma that i installed myself. for one, that was a pain in the ass, two, the O2 sensor welded itself inside the stock manifold (had to buy new one, $150 for upstream), and three the power gains were minimal. On my FJ, i will just by long tubes if i ever decide to do headers again. just my opinion.

They say it's 6 hrs labor, that's a hell of a lot of time to swap out for the smog & another 6 to put them back on after...your power gains were minimal? Were you supercharged or N/A? I've heard the gains are minimal on N/A & much more significant on a supercharged application. Also I don't seem to be finding any long tube headers for the 3.4?

My problem is, I just moved and no-longer have a place to work on my truck & didn't have a place for my tool box anymore so I gave all my tools to my dad to hold for me but he lives 140 miles from me haha

what do you mean? If it won't pass smog it would be because of something else, they wouldn't be able to fail it because I have headers on it if they are C.A.R.B approved.

Yes its CARB apprvd n dats bout it... it'll pass all of dat... wat i mean by wat i said jus cuz its carb legal technically it could still b not street legal completely... Cali changed i believe in 2013 as far as exhaust n all dat upgrades dat makes our vehicles growl... now da law says its all up 2 da cops... 4 example, da main reason why i bought da TRD catback was cuz it was legal within da decibel level on a certain rpm in CA... now it doesnt matter... am not sayin dont get 1 but jus b aware of da so called LEGAL in CA cuz of da NEW LAW... I kno its BS but i blieve its under some kind of noise ordinance law... dont wori bout it Trucks normally dont get harassd by cops... jus wntd u 2 kno wats really street legal...

Eh, my trucks loud as it is...if the headers make it a little louder I'll just swap out my 14" muffler for an 18-22" one. Really the carb stamp/emissions legal shit is all I care about

Besides, those tickets are easy to fight, the cops don't Cary dB meters with them so its just there opinion & if he wants to be a dick. Its supposed to be 92/93 dB @ 3,000 rpm with no load 3' back from the center rear of the car.
