Ive been looking at glow shift gauges. Anyone have an opinion on them?

I have had a good experience with mine so far for the last three years. The only issue I have had was when I was making a 12 hour drive at one point my Oil Temp gauge just started jumping back and forth from peg to peg for a few minutes and then it stopped and never did it again.

I have oil temp, oil pressure, and boost gauges by glowshift. I figure that they will be accurate enough to show any problems before a failure. I use an AEM wideband gauge as I do want that to be as accurate as possible.

I have read a lot of mixed reviews from Glowshift but I have had a positive experience with them.

Basically, with gauges, it goes like this. The higher the price, the thinner the gauge, the more compact the sensor, and the nicer the sensor/instrumentation.

 

Yes I agree. This is one of those situations where you get what you pay for. I did a lot of research before I bought my gauges, oddly enough I didn't even bother to look at price cause I wanted high quality no matter what. I also wanted a custom gauge made to order and Speedhut fit that bill. After buying them others on here noted that it was a lot of money for gauges, but I haven't had a problem, the instructions were decent, and I now have a boost gauge with a 0-10 psi readout so I can actually see the needle move.

Are they over priced? Possibly. Are they exactly what I wanted? You bet. Just keep looking around eventually you'll narrow your search.

 

Just FYI most of the pillar gauge setups on the Tacoma do not recommend installation on curtain airbag equipped Tacomas. I'm not going to say it'll kill you if you get in an accident but it is something to think about.

Definitely a serious consideration if curtain airbags are installed. www.cravenspeed.com or www.urdusa.com have the dual gauge pods for the steering wheel in the even that the pillar pods aren't an option.

 

Well I have an email to Plx to see if there obd gauge will read trans temp but I am going on about 10 days now with no response. So I might start looking at other options again. Really wanted one guage to do it all but that's looking less likely. Might got with the aem wideband boost gauge combo and get a scan gauge. Not real sure.

 

The Scangauge is great. It gives you access to a lot of information from your ECU. The only thing, as previously mentioned, is that the Scangauge won't pull data in real time from the ECU because the ECU doesn't poll the data fast enough for the Scangauge to work effectively as an AFR gauge. There is always a second or two of lag and you get a snapshot reading every 1/2-1 second.

I find that information extremely useful, even the AFR it spits out is good information to have. Not good enough to mess around with your tune or start adding on a whole bunch of aftermarket goodies but good enough to know if something is seriously wrong with your stock flash.

I'd get the Scangauge II and mount it on your rearview mirror. Then I'd get the flexpod and put a good AFR gauge and Boost or Fuel Pressure gauge in. Then I'd call it good .

 

Thought that I had a picture of my Scangauge and blend mount. I'll have to get one.

Love my AEM's...they come with interchangeable faceplates..(White/Black)..and bezels..
think I paid a little over $300 for the pair...

 

I didn't see any blendmount. All I saw was a shiny carbon fiber? racing seat

 

Ended up going with a plx gauge. Once it arrives and I install I will update this thread.
