tornado air system?

Has anyone installed a tornado air system in there taco? I was told that it gives you an extra 5 to 8 hp.

 

Will do no good, waste of money.
But, If you want to try it.
Dyno before and after install.

 

dont waste your money..........it will not do anything for you.

 

yah it sounded like just a piece of metal! But someone told me it work but maybe for there type of truck.

 

i've seen them tested on a few cars/trucks, it actually decreases HP on most because of this...

The idea behind the Tornado intake mod was that swirling the air will cause it to be more turbulent, supposedly being a more effective burn when mixed with the fuel sprayed in by the injectors. While the idea looks good on paper, the reason that it actually DECREASES power is that the intake air is slowed down because it has to work it's way around the Tornado thing, so your engine isn't getting as much air as it would if the intake was unrestricted like it was before the Tornado installation.

The surfaces inside the intake manifolds and plenums within the manifolds ARE NOT smoothed out or polished, because the rougher surface moves the air and makes it more turbulent as it passes through the intake. If you were to polish and smooth out the inside surfaces of the intake, you would also lose power because the intake air is just flowing straight in and doesn't have enough turbulence(sorry for using the word so much but i can't think of a synonym haha) to properly mix with the fuel. The more the air and fuel move around before entering the cylinders, the better the mix, therefore you get more power, better MPG and less emissions because a better mix is a better, more thorough burn.

To sum it up, the Tornado was a good idea but it acts as a restriction in the intake, and the inner surfaces of the manifold and plenum is plenty enough to get the air moving around as it passes through on the way to the cylinder.

Buy an intake kit instead lol, a k&n 63-series aircharger will only be $200, won't throw CEL codes and i hear your MPG won't go down by an overcompensation in fuel from the MAF, which usually goes hand in hand with a CEL.
