the good the bad and the fashizell.
i did a lot of research on exhaust and the pros for me outweigh the cons.
if you want an exhaust that is:
    • best tuned for this specific engine for the most performance gain
    • one piece, no welding or clamps
    • not too loud
    • oem fit
    • competitively priced to aftermarket setups
i love my trd exhaust. i bought it from shoptrd.com for $400 shipped, yes shipped.
my engine runs smooth and purrs nice
i'll take a downunder pic tomorrow when i get off work.

Other than TRD, what other exhausts do people recommend?

Nice. I'd like to see them. Let me know, I'm waiting on an answer from my dealer to see if they'll match that price from www.shoptrd.com. If they do, I'll pick it up today or tomorrow. To the poster above this...thanks for the thread jack attempt!

Its 2 bolts, plus hangers to install the exhaust. Not exactly the most technical thing you'll ever do to the truck, but it its one of the best.

I love my TRD catback, nice level of growl around town, then the right level of boom when you jump on it.

Just started looking for a less restrictive Cat-back system for my '07, 4x4 access cab. MagnaFlow goes for about $475, and that's without installation.

So if the toyota dealer is going to install a stainless system for under $500, in Chicago area that's a deal. The only problem with a hi-perf exhaust system you won't know if you like the sound until its on the truck.

I was hoping it was 2" or 2 1/4". I wonder why the aftermarket exhaust systems use the same size pipes as stock??

Well it might be. I havent gotten into that modding department yet.

Because they dont want to mess up the back pressure or exhaust output.

But Im sure you can make the stock piping fit.... if its just a little off

I just picked this up off of Craigslist for $250 new. I have to say I'm a fan of the TRD exhaust. It adds a nice tone to the exhaust and undoubtedly helps the engine breath better. The sound is not over-powering, especially at cruising speeds. I plan on getting a K&N or TRD intake in the future. I thought I'd post a couple pics before and after I installed it.

Stock exhaust and TRD exhaust comparison - TRD cat back is made by Bosal. As you can see the muffler is slightly smaller on the TRD and the piping gets increased to 2.5" from 2.25".

A shot from behind and underneath. One thing that would be nice is if the muffler back was all polished 409 (like the tip) or if that weld was cleaned up a bit.

Does anyone know how much power gain if any you get with the TRD cat back exhaust? I love how it sounds pretty close to stock when cruising around town but once you get on it wide open the truck sounds awesome.

I've had my cat back on a year and a half and I love it. I also have a flowmaster muffler (I think a 40 series, but not positive) so it's a little louder. I LOVE the way my truck sounds. The exhaust is how it got it's nickname, the Little Yeti :p

That is the TRD exhaust... not the 40 series, correct?!
