so i was reading on here that dynomax gives you the most power. but do i need to get the catback to get the gains or can i just go for the muffler?

Most gain comes from the muffler.

You should. I havent dynoed the muffler alone, but others have, and shown pretty close to what I did.

so, if he can get just 5 from the muffler, how much can you get from a catback system? close to 8? or ten?

I tested a 2.5" cat back with the dynomax muffler, and IIRC, it was about 8.

oh ok. well i would hate to think i wasted my money on a exhaust if it didnt yield hardly any gains. i mean granted yeah i know its hard to get HP from bolt ons, but ya know, its a cheap method

Its really hard to get big gains from our trucks. I belive the DTLT headers are only good for about 3 hp or so...

Actually, The best gains I have seen from a header have been on the 2.7. DT has a Try Y for your truck I belive?

I havent dynoed a second gen 2.7, but the Try Y NWOR header gave me IIRC 14 h.p. or so....It was VERY noticable. Many times when driving in 5th gear, I would accelerate, and think I was in 4th.

holy cow. thats pretty good. so, do you think it could be better with the second gens engine and all that? i mean 14 extra hp alone would put me over 170 vs the stock 159. but granted, it needs to be dynoed to be sure.

I went from 105 to about 118 or 119 at the wheels IIRC. No idea on how the second gens will react, as they have the VVT-i, which boosts low end torque/hp. The first gens didnt have that. Do a before and after dyno if you can.
