doug thorley long tubes

ok ? anyone out there have the doug thorley long tubes on a 05-09 tacoma thinking about getting them and just wondering how they sound, how easy to install, and what they power gains were and if any mpg gains??

 

Dyno was performed on an FJ, but the numbers will be similar. Mid range gains are very good! When paired with a CAI you should see a nice increase across the whole power band.

The max gains are in the mid-range, peak gains won't be much higher then was Chris4x4 stated. But you spend more time in the mid range then at redline anyways.

Maybe chris can add specifics to this but my friend who is a ASE certified mechanic said that in 2010 that ALL STATES will start having to pass an emissions test so you might want to keep your cats on. He said that OBAMA has signed a bill that ties all of the federal money for roads to states that pass emisions testing and those that refuse won't get fed money. So all states, even those that currently don't test, will adopt a federal emissions test in the near future. I say this because I know some people have been removing the cats with the long tubes and I wouldn't want to do this and then in a year or two have to reinstall a new system because I couldn't pass emissions testing. I don't know what model year they will require to pass the emissions and what will be the penalty for failure, I'm just passing along the info. Personally I'm waiting to get the cash for high flow cats and doing the whole exhaust by fed standards.

 

ok thanks yeah i have to do emisions when i lived in atlanta but the way around it was to register in another county so i dunno i was worried about that but normally u can pay off the emissions guy for about 50$ and they will pass u depending on who u know and what not so i dunno may go with it and deal with it when it come up

 

the way i'm looking at it is i can get short tubes for about 350 and have to pay to get them installed cause of the welding and all or i can get longtubes for 600 (after the o2 sensor chip) and install myself but i still have awhile to decide i wont be home for another 10 months so not in too much of a hurry

 

Go with the long tubes, you will not regret it... I had the JBA shorties, and now run the long tubes & The difference is night and day.

 

with the long tubes, do you keep the O2 sensor or do you have to run an O2 simulator?

 

umm i'm not entirely sure i think u keep ur o2 sensors but u attach a o2 chip of some sort can remember the exact name of it but its about 50$ and it is supposed to keep ur check engine light off and keep ur o2 sensors reading right hope that helps
