Any time thats what we are here for. And no matter what you can install the wheels and tires now and see how you like it. Then do the gears later. It's pricey and quite a bit of work. I have some 4.10 gears sitting on my floor now that I bought. I was like you planning to regear and find I don't need to but for the price of these gears I couldn't say no. Besides it'll get me back to stockish. Have a very Merry Christmas!

305s are rediculous and with aftermarket rims you are more than likely going to need to do the cab mount mod and probably UCAs

    why not 285/75s

even they require quite a bit of trimming

^ He's right about the tires being too much. I'd as he suggest 285's
Stock 2.7 is rated at what about 160 hp and 180 tq. My 02 V6 was barely better than that, and I ran 33's. I'd try it before I spent tons of money on regearing. No doubt that you would like some 4.56 gears. It all depends on you in the end. gears will cost a pretty penny especially to have somone other than yourself install them.

Dont forget that a revtec lift wont cut it... you need ucas to clear wider tires too.

My plan is getting COs and UCAs then getting 255/85 16s. they are 33"x10" 16"s. Way fewer clearance issues and the fit on stock rims.

^ good call on that size, not to mention saving some money on rims.
Certainly, the skinnier the better, within reason. Width adds alot of weight and resistance.

and being narrower they are lighter= less rolling resistance. the truck is light enough that narrow tires still provide enough floatation and if driven in snow provide good traction because they cut through to pavement

CO's= Coilovers. UCA's are Upper Control Arms.

I also have a 2.7L 4x4 and re-gearing is a necessity. It would be ridiculous to put 33s on your truck without re-gearing. I didn't even like the power loss that resulted from putting on 32s. In 5th gear, I could hardly keep it at 70mph if there was a head wind until I got a K&N air filter.

When I re-geared I got 4.56 because I intend to get 33s eventually. 4.56 gears will put your final ratio back to stock.

My suggestion for tires would be 255/85/16 (33x10). With as light of a truck as you've got, you don't need a very wide tire. If you start actually doing friction calculations, you can see that all that extra surface area can hurt your overall traction. My $.02

also 255/85/16 won't require new UCAs and the trimming involved will be minimal.

I would listen to drew. Despite all I said my comments were not from actual experiences with your truck. His comments are very valuable here. He's been there and done that. Also the man to ask about doing the regear, as he has done his himself. I hate to be wrong or give bad advise but his personal experience trumps me. lol. I didn't want to push you into purchasing gears right off hand if maybe you would be content with the stock ones.

Drew do the 2.7s lack the low end torque as well as in higher rpms? One of the jeeps I wheel with is old as dirt and makes around 100hp, he has 33's and some 4.10s. No issues there. What is lacking in ya'll trucks? Could it be the gearing in the tranny?

Is your friends jeep an automatic? Not having the right gearing is more of a problem with a manual transmission, because the clutch can't take the same kind of abuse as a torque converter. When the gearing is wrong in an auto, its way less noticable because the torque converter just slips more (bad in the long run).

Your advice would be spot on for the 4.0L Autos, but for the 2.7L manuals it's a different story.

if you got spacers you wouldn't need UCAs. You'd have to do more trimming though.
