Well the nice thing about the Optimas is that you can stuff two in the place of one OEM.

My red top as been fine so far. No complaints. I although I've heard and read from several of their declining quality.

    I'm curious....

Those of you that had an Optima FAIL...what happened?? Did it go dead?
If yes, did you try to recharge it?

I had a yellow top on my jeep for years. Granted, it didn't get used regularly but sat for months and it always started the jeep up. It had countless times of using the winch on it. It went dead at work one day because I left the lights on - my husband hooked it up to charger and it never skipped a beat after that. GREAT BATTTERY!! (Yellow top)

Most all the complaints have been about the Red Tops. The Red Tops simply don't like getting even mildly undercharged (like from sitting). I've lost two Red Tops - one after sitting for only 5 days. Both were checked, tested, and found to be incapable of holding a charge again.

There were also 2 periods (one around 2004; the second around 2006 or 2007) when Optima admitted having significant quality control issues - again mainly with the Red Tops. There were large numbers of failures during these periods.

Yellow Tops don't seem to have the same frequency of problems / failures as the Red Tops.
