there are better options for short tube headers in the price range, JBA or Doug Thorley

It says no weld installation, but I don't see bolt holes where the cat goes. If I were going for headers, I'd be getting the doug thorley long tube headers that remove the front set of cats. They are a true bolt on connection. You might have problems with emissions testing though since you are in in Cali

Anyone know the emissions laws in North Carolina. What does an inspection station check for in this state. I dont want to eliminate cats and then be rejected for saftey inspection sticker...

WOW!!! Looking at that it seems like I will not be getting Doug Thorley long tubes.

I want the sound and improved performance of Headers but not the penalty of failed emissions.

the shorty jba's or obx's will keep the front ones and u can either have someone cut out the rear cats and piece some in piping....or get the urd y-pipe and it takes out the reat cats and has a place for the back o2 sensor to screw in. neither way of taking out the back ones will throw codes during testing.

yeah, you just need probably a y pipe from urd, like jhodge said, that wont throw a cel code. shorty headers with o2 simulators may be the way to go.......you'll pass emissions, and you will have extra sound/power.

eidt:.....actually, forget paying that much for the y pipe.....just get someone to cut out the rear cats and install straight piping there, it wont throw a cel either because the o2 sensors are behind the last 2 cats. then do the headers with the o2 simulators......pass emissions without any problems i'd think.

w/ the shorty headers, u dont have to get o2 sensors. i'm pretty sure that they weld in before any of that mess. tacorock didnt say anything about o2 sensors w/ his.

Ok here we go, hope no one gets mad, but I need questions answered and could not find much in forum.

Shorty headers JBA: emissions legal/but need welding of stock cats? So, why not replace front cats w/high flow cats to weld to headers/purchase Y pipe, cant use straight pipe cause of my Borla cat back. Instead, remove stock rear cats. Question, this set up W/O2 simulator, will I pass emissions?

Also, if this is true are the JBA Headers of any quality? I heard lots of mixed opinions.

you say you cant use straight pipe for the 2 rear cats because of your borla catback. the catback should be basically on after the rear cats, then a little more piping right?? so you could use straight pipe there. all the y pipe does is eliminates the rear cats, basically from right where the rears bolt up, to where your borla is bolted on, so you should be fine with two pieces of straight pipe in place of the cats.........its essentially the same thing. and as far as the jba's.....i have heard mixed results also. i still think thorleys are the way to go.......even if you had to have o2 sensor simulators, and you should be able to pass emissions.

Ok, so now Im catching on. If I want the Doug Thorleys, all I have to do is install the O2 simulators and the inspection station should pass me for emissions test?

How does this work, and or, has it worked for anyone???

basically, all they are doing is checking for emissions. o2 simulators will make their diagnostic tool read what "should be", while its actually "not", therefore passing emissions. at least thats the way im pretty sure it works.

and yes.......you are catching on indeed:D!!

here, check this out.,.........this is basically what a o2 simulator does!!

u should be ok if u get the long tubes, as long as u do the o2 simulators. urd sells those as well i believe. for emissions here, they pop in a scanner and make sure ur throwing no codes. if u really want a down and dirty on what u can get by w/, go by ken's muffler shop here in fayetteville by the sams slub enterance and talk to the 40ish y/o looking guy w/ brown hair/mustache and he'll give u the down and dirty of what u can get by w/...especially if u want them to do any work. i asked them about getting them to cut out the rear cats and pipe it in and they said that by law they couldnt touch anything already there from the factory. but i mentioned to him about the y pipe and he said that'd be the best way to go. they welded on my sliders and welded my piping on my magnaflow exhaust b/c the catback came w/ the glorified hose clamps and they were leaking at the muffler on both sides.
