Secondary air filter?

I know the 2006 tacomas have them, but does the 2005 have it to?

So I've read about people removing this filter. What are the benefits if any of doing this?

It's debatable. A lot of people claim that it helps out, but I'm not sure if it worth modifying your intake for.

2005 and up, remove it it's worthless. Or invest in an intake that deletes entire stock piping and box set up.

So by removing it will I be breathing in the nasty crap the comes thru the cabin? Also I'm assuming if removed there's a big hole hole there right?

It's an engine intake, has nothing to do with you breathing stuff inside, unless you have your exhaust routed to your cab.

There is no hole. It's a SECONDARY filter meaning, it comes after the initial air filter.

I think you're misunderstanding what it is you're asking. This is not the cabin air filter but a filter on the engine intake.

now I'm lost. The secondary air filter is for the engine intake. The cabin air filter is on 2006+ and only filters the air for you air conditioning.

if u take the intake part off like ur going to replace that afe, the thick filter to the right, that is still attached to the intake housing, is the secondary. its supposed to keep minor gas fumes from exiting out the intake when u cut the truck off. u'll notice a difference if u take it out...power and mpg's

You are mistaking this filter for the cabin filter behind your glove box. look at the pics I posted. this is above the motor and is closest to the TB when you open filter box.

the 05 should have a cabin filter as well...but its behind the glovebox. if u take the glovebox out, u should see a flap w/ 2 clips on it. pop the 2 clips down and there should be a thin, white filter in there that looks like a mini housebold a/c filter. that is the cabin filter. they do need changing. i told tacorock about his and he popped it out and he had pinestraw and leaves and all kinds of crap stuck in there. the dealer wants $35 for a new one....u can get em on ebay shipped for like $12

I read that someone with a 2005 had the space for it, but no filter.
