Bigger filter on oil change?

I have a 2007 tacoma and i do most of my own maint. and on my last change i found we can use a FRAM (Auto Zone Brand) PH8A (The Model) and 6 full qtz of the oil u may prefer... I like the Castrol Full Synthetic Blend... This filter is so much bigger and u are able to fit another half qt of oil... What do u guys think? Is it safe to go bigger or do the recomended?

I used a Fram pH8A on my 79 20R for close too 300,000 but you will get lots of "Fram are junk" comments on this site.

i personally seen a fram come apart and damage an engine! i would not use fram in anything i own.....not even my lawnmower.....

 

Beware the FRAM haters and FRAM bashers. Some of those folks get down right nasty about it.....

I've used Fram filters and haven't had any issues.

So beware....you'll know it when you're being pounced on.

Sounds more like the engine blew up and destroyed the filter in the process.

lots of people use fram with no problem, if you open up a fram filter you will see the cardboard end caps and the shoty filter media....i say you like fram use it...you will never see me use one...

 

I use a napa gold for a jeep liberty.

 

You need a certain amount of oil pressure with your engine so you might want to stay stock. Might be bad.


(Just get a shorter dip stick)

 

Most people have their favorites because of either bad luck or good luck with their filters. If u cut open some of the filters on the market today you will see the difference between them. [not all filters are made the same]. I like to use Hastings or purolator pureone...just my 2 cents

my dad and I use fram on all 4 of our cars. my taco has 180,000 miles with no problems, and his corolla has 175,000 with no problems.

 

Quality of the filter is more important than the size. JMO

 

If you use fram make sure you use the Tough Guard. It is 99% efficient and has the silicone anti drainback valve. This is very important on our Gen2 because the filter is mounted upside down.

 

+1 A large, quality filter is the best of both worlds. I was just saying that if I have the choice between a small quality filter and a large junk filter, I'd take the small one.

 

Fram filters are junk, stick to the Toyota fikter which has a valve to keep oil pressure up and the filtering system is far superior to ANYTHING in the aftermarket world.
