will a 97 ECU work in a 96 truck?

    i need some help here, TRD wont tell me anything or try to help me but i am thinking about putting the SC kit on my 96 tacoma everyone i have talked to tells me the 96 ECU is not a learning ECU and the 97 is. what i dont know is can ii just go to ta junk yard and buy a 97 and install it in my truck? will that make it possible for me to run the SC?
    any help appreciated

    what happen when you call a normal dealer and ask for the 2 part numbers?
    if they are the same then you are ok.
    if they are differant then you will need the 97 ECU.

    I wish we had a Compatibly guide for these trucks.
