Exhaust vs Cold Air Intake

Just curious, I have enough money for either a cat-back exhaust or a cold air intake. Which would you get first if you were in my shoes. I want the exhaust for sound, but the intake for performance.

 

Exhaust and get a drop in filter like the AFE ProdryS. I went custom with my exhaust, just added a muffler.

i agree with wilson...................good drop in filter like the afe pro dry s, and have the muffler shop weld in your choice of muffler................alot cheaper than a cat back or cai, and essentially the same as the catback, but cheaper....and with the filter......it will benefit from normal driving...unlike a cai which benefits more at higher rpms.

Go with the exhaust the engine is an air pump in very basic form. Doesnt mater how much air you put in if there is a restriction getting it out. So i would do the exhaust and free up the out first.

 

I did exactly what tacomaman suggested and I love it.

I wouldn't recommend a CAI if you go offroad. One deep water crossing and you're done.

 

I would go intake first. Even if you open up the exhaust, you are still gonna be restricted by the headers. Save up more for the exhaust and do headers back.

 

well, on newer trucks like ours, its not always about reducing back pressure, but its also about scavaging the trucks performance power. so, personaly, id go with a good quality catback exhaust or a muffler

 

so i decided on the exhaust! thanks for all your input guys! get the sound i want, a boost in performance, cooler temps under the hood, better gas mileage, and an aggressive look in the back!

sorry, i just added it above the picture... it's a flowmaster. found it for $380 at http://www.autoanything.com/ (it was like $425-$465 everywhere else).

Do you have to remove the spare to mount that? Where does the driver side piping run under the truck?
