Truck runs normal at 0 to45 mph with rpms below 2000. As soon as I accelerate with rpms over 2000 engine sputters and dies. After 2 or 3 minutes engine starts right up again and runs fine till I accelerate over 2000
+ rpms and then dies again. I took it out the other day and drove it 50+ miles, accelerating slowly, keeping rpms under 2000 and it ran normal, but as soon as I stepped on the gas to speed up it dies.

    I appreciate any guesses

well, could be a lot of things, for starters, any sheck engine lights? code could point, vaguely, in the proper direction. this could be anything from a broken vaccume line to a faulty fuel pump. If no cels, check fuel pressure at injectors, i hear 5-10psi will define a good pump from bad, thats all i got, good luck!

I once had an old truck that acted just like that. Starting with the easiest remedy, I replaced the inline fuel filter and it ran fine afterwards. Good luck!

I had a cel a couple of times when it started to die and I stepped on the gas. It died anyway. After a couple of minutes it started. I cleared the cel and it stayed off. I thougth cel came on because I had drowned the engine.
    Thanks for your quesses

If you have a ScangaugeII or Ultra Gauge, use that to see if you have any codes. I doubt that you have codes, and or have either of those gauges. Other wise, stop by Autozone, and ask them to check and see if you have any codes.

Next, how many miles do you have on your truck? When is the last time that you replaced the fuel filter?

When is the last time that you changed your oil and spark plugs?

I blew fuel filter out with air. It didn't seem to be plugged. Oil is new. Spark plugs are 7 yrs. old . I have 172,000 miles on it. O'Riellys checked battery and alternator. Thy're ok. I'll try new plugs and fuel filter.
    Thanks

With that many miles, when is the last time that you replaced the catalytic converter/converters?

Quite possibly very clogged. If I remember correctly, aren't the cats unboltable?
