Plugs at 100,000 miles

I've got a 2008 Tacoma with the 4 cyl engine, 2.7 liter. I'm the original owner. I'm amazed when I read where people are replacing their plugs at 30,000 miles. You just don't need to change them that often.
I just hit 100,000, the truck still ran great, and my mileage was still up around 28 mpg on the highway. The original plugs looked fine, their gap was .043". They may have worn about .003" if they started out at .040". The plugs came out fine although the threads were dry, there were no problems getting them loose. I replaced them with NGK Iridiums and a little antiseize on the threads. The whole job took about an hour. I love 4 cylinder engines!

Next up is Ford "Exploader" with 118,000 on the original plugs. It still idles fine, by the way. Being a V-6 I'm sure it will be a PIA like others I've had.

Save the time and money and run those plugs longer!...........

 

Toyota recommends changing the plugs every 30k on the six cylinder. Most of the people I've seen changing them that often have the six.

 

also for the 5vzfe engine on the first gens.

 

you have iridium plugs in your 4 cyl IIRC. That would be why they last so long. N/A 1gr engines use normal plugs.

 

i got my 30k maintenance done at Sears because I was pissed at my Stealership. Big mistake. Sears service here blows... but this is a story for another time..... anyway, they replaced the plugs with Bosch high performance plugs and all fluids (including oil) with the highest grade synthetics. I have to say that I did notice a considerable change in the performance of the engine. I plan on staying with mobil 1 synthetic and change it about every 7k miles. What major maintenance is there after the 30k besides rotations and oil changes? (sorry for hijacking the thread)

 

his info says he has a 4 banger...........he had iridium plugs in there and they got swapped out with bosch plugs. i dont think i'd be too happy bout that.

 

Anal is good. The plugs that came out were Denso iridiums. I replaced them with NGK iridiums. I'm guessing the NGKs are as good or better than the Denso plugs. Heck, they'd have to be better than plugs that had gone 100,000 miles.
Now, just don't ask me how often I change oil.....LOL

i put denso iridiums in my 1gr at 48,000......very noticeable difference in pickup

 

yup, just changed mine 2 days ago at 43k and there was visible wear on several of the electrodes.

 

i need to change my plugs. im at 36k. ive always wondered how bad the plugs were at 30k??
