Evil prospers while good people do nothing. By leaving, you are letting the asswipe get away with it. I'm not judging, just stating the obvious.

I'd be willing to bet most of you haven't owned a real dog. Just the cool dog around your area. Never a real working breed and by that I don't mean the one with the pretty pedigree, I mean an actual dog that works.

Referring to the comments about outside dogs. If you use your animals for their purposes then they normally can't be house dogs they will lose their edge. What do you think about people that have horses? Should they move them into the house for fear of you people thinking they are cruel to animals.

My point exactly! Thanks for confirming that. Animals weren't put on this earth just to be your pets. Most were breed with specific jobs in mind.

Irrelevant... If no one does anything with the dog, it doesn't matter if it's indoors, outdoors, sporting, working, etc. It all comes down to lack of training time put in. A barking dog is usually a sign of a bored dog, or they have learned that barking gets them attention (even if it is bad attention). Retraining a dog that isn't yours isn't an easy task.

I don't think it's cruel to leave a dog outside. I think it's cruel to leave a dog penned up in a yard by an owner who does nothing with the dog. Dogs are generally active animals and do much better when kept engaged.

A dog's 'job' can be as simple as retreiving a ball... They tend to be much less aggressive and annoying if they're given something to do. If you leave a smart dog alone with nothing to do, they find stuff to do. Those are the cases where you come home to find the dog has eaten your shoes, torn up your couch or done something else he wasn't supposed to. If you don't have the time for a pet, you shouldn't have one. Obviously the neighbors fall into that category.

I wasn't commenting on the topic. My comment was directed at those that think keeping a dog outside is cruel. If you don't fit that description then I wasn't referring to you.

For the guy asking what job does a dog have? Cattle dogs, Bull Dogs, Hunting dogs, these are examples of jobs there are dogs that fit those bills, when they were created. However people have watered them down to just pets.

lol, because it is a common animal that is also thought of as a pet. Somewhere in this thread a comment was made about leaving a pet outside was cruel. That was an example of a pet you can't bring into the home. Same as some working dogs. The OP states that there are "Pit Bulls" barking, this dog if indeed a True APBT will not do very well inside a home with other dogs as DA is very common and acceptable is this breed because of its high prey drive and gladiator attitude. These were once renowned working dogs that were very sought after and now the wrong type of people use them as a source of income, yet can't properly care for them or house them thus they are left outside on chain setups and become very bored then become a nuisance.

My bad, I made a comment about leaving a dog outside so I thought it was directed at me

I agree with your last statement. I have a Lab Retreiver and even though I don't take him hunting, I've found he is MUCH better behaved when he's given something to do. We spend an hour with him daily at a minimum either throwing a ball, hiding treats and making him find them, running, etc. If we try to miss a day, he's doing laps in the house. Point is, dogs are smart and like to be engaged in an activity. When they're tired, they're different dogs.

Yes, I made that comment, it is cruel to leave a dog outside feed and water it and assume that's all it takes to own an animal.

I get the zinc thing, but why are onions poisonous to dogs? Same as bethes said, we've fed our old pooch onions before, they were usually in sauces on the steaks. Never harmed her once to my knowledge.

But she'd eat even a tiny bite of chocolate and puke it up.

Then we are on the same page and I appologize, I can't stand poor dog owners that think its their right to own dogs.

I don't know the science behind why, but i know they are. Again it is something that is all in the amount. A small amount probably won't kill your dog, but it isn't good for them either.

It's not an automatic, they eat an onion and they'll die sort of thing. It messes with their system and, in extreme cases, can kill them. It makes it hard for them to breathe, can cause them to become anemic and make them sick to their stomach.
