So sorry for you loss, I just went through almost the same thing.

Took out my 7 year old German Sheppard on his favorite river trail on a sunday afternoon, that night no more than 8 hours later he pissed in the house twice. Monday he wouldn't eat or drink, ran all kinds of tests and the vets found nothing.....long story short we narrowed it down to brain cancer/tumor. He went from a healthy pup to gone in a matter of 11 days. We have 6 dogs in my family and he was the leader.

Skidooman - I am sorry to hear about your loss. Take comfort in knowing that Hank lived a good life and seems to have been well loved. RIP Hank.

I went and saw the new pup we are picking up yesterday and introduced our 5 year old yorkie. Seemed to tolerate each other then became a little more friendly as the time went on; should be no problem once we bring him home. Friday can't come soon enough; waiting until we are moved into our house. He is a dachshund/shepherd mix, about 10 lbs at 16 weeks old. The shelter estimates he'll weigh in at 30-40 lbs when fully grown. Has a bit of an elongated body with the shepherd colors and "stance". Will update as he adjusts to his new surroundings.

I had to put down my little boxer Zu yesterday. She was with me for 15 wonderful years. I will miss her. She was one of the best dogs I have ever had. One of the hardest things I think any dog lover can do.
RIP Zu, I will never forget you.

Sorry for your loss too. You're right though, definitely a hard thing to do. Nothing makes me more sad than thinking about my lost companions. Best to you guys as you try to cope these next few weeks.

Sitting at the park eating lunch with my wife, and a truck pulls up. Out jumps the woman who was driving, and two kids about 12 and 8 from the backseat. And what do they have? Black lab puppy, about 3 months old... THAT was tough.

    This is my German Shorthair.

He is only 9 months old. But he's already got Squirrel, Deer, Pheasant, and Quail scents down pat. He takes directions from a whistle and retrieves pretty well.

Not neutered if anyone is going to need a stud dog in about a year. Best damn pointer I have ever owned. The black in his coloring comes from his mom that was brought from Germany.

Thanks all for the sympathy. The next hardest thing was telling my 4 year old boy that Zu went to heaven. Did that today, had to tell him why she wasn't going for a walk with us. He always walked her, when she was able, because she was so gentle. We both cried for about an hour.
