Beautiful bird dogs in here! I'm glad to see a bunch of them! Makes me want to move back to my old Kentucky home! There are not many GSPs in northern Virginia. Plenty of politicians though!

On a side note, I just switched the pup over to a raw diet based on a prey model, and the benefits are incredible. If anyone wants my spreadsheet I use for calculating the food amounts and variety, send me a PM.

(Note, I have tuned this diet to specifically field dogs. So the couch potato and non-working dog breeds might not benefit as much)

May I ask where you got her from? I have a bud that fosters boxers in Ft. Worth, just wondering if maybe you got from them. I'll post pics of my 2 pups shortly.

Brittanys? Would you consider them hyper? I am continually reading up on gun dogs - I'd really like a dove & duck dog but I don't really want a lab. Do you hunt them at all?

Hyper YES! I do NOT hunt them, but I wish everyday I had land to hunt on consistently where I could train them. Bella on the left is from a private seller who hunted her mom...she's definitely the more hyper, go getter. I could definitely take her hunting, but she's not trained so the minute I let her go or unleash her, she would run for miles. Indy on the right is actually a rescue, he's more of a lap dog, but loves to try to keep up with Bella when we take them out to the country. I mainly hunt dove and duck. I've had Bella with me a couple times and she'll find the birds which helps in that black dirt or high grass, but she won't fetch. We keep them inside with us and absolutely love them.....we've had them for 4 years now, our son is 2 and they are so great around him. I don't think we would ever get any other breed. Love'em.

This shit is amazing. Dog gets like 14 feet in the air on the back flip in the sand. What a bad ass. More talent than me. I'd eat shit jumping a skateboard, I'd probably eat shit on the down hill scooter too.

Thanks for the info. We feel the same about our Scotties - best breed in the world, except useless as a gun dog, lol. Cute Brittanys for sure!

I've had a few Britts over the years, specifically as bird dogs. They are great pointers and make great upland dogs. Retrieving is not their strong suit but they will do it, often requires force breaking them. They typically freeze their asses off Duck hunting if you can get them to a point where you would rely on them to retrieve. They really excel in mountainous areas where they have to work all day without running out of gas, they are light on their feet.

Sounds like you want a dog that is more specifically a retriever. You may have a specific reason for not wanting a lab but it really is your best option. I have had Brittany's, Springer's, Shorthair's and finally got a Lab and she amazes me more everyday, she doesn't have quite the intensity in the field as some of the others I have had but for all around dog I have never had a better best friend than I do now.

I really want to get a wirehaired pointing griffon, since they are low shedders and supposedly "calm" for a hunting dog. Just gotta keep my eye on the rescue board.

I don't want a lab just because I hunt over labs all season for doves & ducks, and I want something different. If I didn't have other dogs I'd consider a Chessie.
