Looking for an upgrade Camera

I currently have a little Digital camera and am looking to upgrade to something like a Nikon D40. My sister and Dad have one and they are great, but I'm on a budget. Is there a good camera out there that will give me a great shot under $400?

Also, if it matters, I am basically taking pictures only of outdoor stuff...Tailing Redfish, Rivers, Mountains, Deer, etc.

Thanks!

Well...I don't know much about them yet. But basically I want something affordable. Got any links to some decent deals?
Thanks.

I checked it out. Looks nice! But I am looking for something not as digital. More manual. The one I'm looking at tomorrow is actually film.

Yeah it is film.

I really don't mind the film. I just want something with a manual focus.

I've only used Canon Digital (original Rebel and a 30D) for the last bunch of years. Not bad to transition from film to digi, and the knowledge translates reasonably well.

The biggest thing with digital is that if you make a mistake, you wipe them out and try again. Film is permanent, if you forget a setting, every pic on that setting is junk, and you've blown $x on the film and $x more on processing to find out that they're junk.

Just having a manual focus doesn't make it final. You still have to know something about setting f-stop and speeds for conditions and film type. Make sure you get a manual with whatever you buy and read it- several times. Same with the digital.

I went thru some pictures I did on film back in the 80s-90s and the color and clarity are right up there with the stuff I did with the 30D. Sometimes better. BUT you have to know what you're setting in. Kinda like a computer- Garbage in, garbage out. Especially with film.

You don't have to get an old camera to have manual focus. All Nikon lenses have a auto/manual switch so you can switch it manual whenever you want.

Question why do you want a manual focus? Have you ever shot with a DSLR?

DSLRs have manual focus...

And a D40 body can be had from eBay for $300 and a kit lens for $80.

Thanks Viet. Sorry for my ignorance about cameras, I am learning

I got the Canon today though..80 bucks isn't too bad for me. Came with a bag, polorizer, standard 35-80mm lens, extra film rolls, and fresh batteries.

I'm just starting to take pictures with it..Mostly reading through the manual.
As a high schooler, I think it will be a nice transition camera. I figured out that my sister had this same camera in high school before she got her Nikon for a graduation present
