Yeah Mike has some real great shots. Ill make sure she's comfortable. Were pretty good friends, we dated a long time ago. But yeah for sure I will make sure of that. She asked for one thing in return, and I think that will be easy enough, and the request was to get her into photography as well.

Yeah I need to get some off camera lighting. I have a small light that could be used. And all kinds of photos. I told her anything from regular clothes, dresses, bathing suit etc. she said she was fine with all of it and was really excited. Its more or less just practice for me and a learning experience.

What would be a good background. I don't have a studio or anything nice like that, I was thinking about going and buying a king sized white sheet just to throw up for some shoots. Recommendations? I mean nothing fancy just something to get a good background?

you can get a backdrop stand for about $100 and a roll of seamless paper for $40...

or just shoot in your house... most of my shoots are done in home settings or out on the sidewalk... my studio shots are typically either on seamless paper in my garage or at a rental studio...

the best part of shooting on location outdoors is you don't need lighting... ambient lighting in the shade works wonders...

No backdrop, no problem. I'd look around for some contrasting backgrounds. Like older buildings or maybe a graffiti background. Be sure to try and separate your model from the backgrounds for some of the shots.

Shoot at f/2.8 or around there. Sharp subject, blurred background (bokeh). You can separate them with light too but that makes it more complicated.

Oh right right I got ya. Im gonna start looking at a new lens for pictures such as this since I only have the kit lens which is just a f/3.5. Suggestions? Something good but relatively in a good price range.

    Sorry to hear that Jake.

On a side note, I just read a story on the forum I moderate that said what a great job Adorama for them. I've bought from them before and have used their customer service--it's pretty good. I've probably bought more from B&H and they're also very good.

hey pope, you should look into getting a cannon 50mm f/1.8. Super cheap ($100) and has the fast 1.8 aperture you're looking for.

Yeah I was just searching ebay for one. I figured most have a 50mm and my mom and my grandmother had a 50mm for their old SLRs so I thought about looking into getting one.
