My good friend is about to go travel the world for a year or so (and oh how I want to drop out and join him).

I told him he can't go without a camera to document his trip. I recommended to him, in this order, a few to check out.

    Sony NEX-7 (interchangeable lenses)

    Sony RX100 II

    Fuji X100S

I really think he should go for the NEX-7 since it has interchangeable lenses, longest battery life, largest sensor, smallest/lightest and an optical viewfinder, etc.

That Zeiss 24mm lens would be great for travel but may be out of his budget since the camera alone is already pushing it.

Do you guys have any more input or recommendations for us? Thanks.

Shit dude for the NEX-7 you could get a T3i DSLR..or a T2i DSLR and an extra lens..

Not me, him. And he wants compact for traveling all over the world. He's going everywhere out of a backpack pretty much.

    I know..was just saying.

Idk if you have seen a T2i but they aren't big and they are very light...id get that I think for the price.

More lenses doesn't matter when you're traveling the world. Look at the stats. The NEX-7 is very significantly smaller, like a lot considering he's living out of a backpack, lighter weight, can take panoramas, has HDR, higher resolution, 10fps vs. 3.7, half as thin, almost half the weight, and still has a larger sensor. He needs compact over lots of lenses, better AF, and cheaper. Which is why I was comparing the three I mentioned.

Well...price wise the t3i is better IMO..it's half the cost of the nex7. Yea it's better camera. But 2x the price so it had better be haha

Sit around and wait for it to quit raining and rush out as soon as it stops to get pics with the rocks wet and dark. Also see what I can find that looks cool after it just got soaked.

i know mine can dunk into a stream and still work fine after. a little condensation problems after when i went from cold to hot temps, but as far as now its all gone. my 16-35mm may be shot though....auto focus on the lens has been kind broken for a few months, i think this may have pushed it ha. but at least i know my camera is waterproof ha.
