I thought I needed new tires for my truck. From last weekend.

From today. I like finding spots in the Black Hills that I can get a distant view of Mt Rushmore. It's hard to see but it's in the granite on the horizon just left of center below the spires. The GPS said I was about 38 miles out.

Love the Black Hills. I'm from Aberdeen. Shot the South and North Dakota badlands last summer but didn't make it to the hills.

I spent the day under Santa Monica Beach pier with this girl.

Gotta love the warm weather of winter in Southern California.

Link bookmarked! I feel like I learned the basics(Aperature, shutter speed, iso etc.) but not advancing and grasping more than just the basics. Will have to take a read at this on my days off. Thanks!

Glad I could pass it along. If you've got the basics down then you'll definitely want to check out all the lessons after 9.

Question: Do you guys do the camera calibration in LR? Why?

Edit: Also, when you guys export RAW out of LR, what quality of JPEG do you create? Or do you export it directly to a smaller one for Flickr?

Hey Kevin, with the 400, how do you carry it in the field? camera strap? on a mono/tripod or just by hand?

Here are some of my latest. Taken at the Three Sisters at the mouth of the of the Tongaporutu River in NZ. The 25 meter rock formations (Now only two) were spectacular. The trick is- to get to them you have to hit low tide and even then, I was almost waist deep in some of the water with all my camera equipment over my head. I wasnt aware until I got back that there were actual Maori petroglyphs carved into cave rock walls. That would have been cool to find.

Loved the reflection of the wet black sand and the clouds

If I'm doing actual field work I just have binocs with a point and shoot because usually I don't want to carry much weight and if I fall into a cactus or a creek (both of which have happened before...) I don't want to worry about my expensive camera (the binocs are waterproof).

For just carrying it around if I'm not using it I have it in its case in my backpack.

For using it, I usually just have my camera strap on the camera body and then I almost always have a hand on the lens to support it. I was looking at the lens and didn't see anywhere to attach a separate strap, but I have the tripod mount attached to the lens and I just hold onto that, pretty much.

Along with the challenge here, a guy at work is doing a weekly challenge to keep him shooting. I joined his too, this week he drew "letters". I took this of my bumper.

and also one that I didn't pick for the challenge this week.

ISO 1000 | 38mm | f9.0 | 0.3 seconds

IMG_8037.jpg by Monte Nickles Photos, on Flickr

The "normal" one:

ISO 1000 | 38mm | f9.0 | 1.3

IMG_8036.jpg by Monte Nickles Photos, on Flickr

over exposed:

ISO 1000 | 38mm | f9.0 | 5.0 sec

IMG_8038.jpg by Monte Nickles Photos, on Flickr

and the final using this plugin in LR

HDR Frankenstein4.jpg by Monte Nickles Photos, on Flickr

Enfuse Plugin here: http://www.photographers-toolbox.com...e.php?sec=main

i did do a bit of final touches in LR when i reimported it. But not much. I really like how they turned out though. Can't wait to try some more HDR with it.
