Any of you Nikon guys have any thoughts on the new D750. Looks to be pretty well featured, especially for focusing in low light. It's really the only FF from Nikon in a long time that would fit/entice me (Not that I shoot Nikon anymore, but if I did I'd consider it for sure).

The same 1/4000 top ss from the D610 is what bugged me the most, but overall the only two cameras from Nikon that are FF that appeal to me are the D810 and now D750 and that 810 is just too much for me, price tag and all, to even want. ha I'm not in the market, I just read up a bit on the 750 and thought, hey, at least Nikon is making more than another facelift of the same models with the same features.

Smallest Nikon FF in current lineup (by a hair, basically same as 610), best AF system (next step up even past the 810 and D4s) in low light, and significantly less expensive than the 800 series. IMO the 600 was never a real option which is why I got a D7100 when I shot Nikon, but if I had stayed with them this would have fit the bill for me anyway.

Everyone obviously has to find the tool that best fits them. Just wish it had 1/8000 max ss.

Yea my 60d has 1/8000th but the.."cheaper" ff for canon is the 6d and it is also a 1/4000th.

While that seems like a bummer....I..never have done a frame that fast haha never had enough light for it

It's not about freezing motion. It's about light. If I'm shooting at f/1.4 or f/1.8 on my primes my SS maxes out in bright daylight, making me put an ND filter on. If I have an extra stop I have more leeway when shooting in bright daylight. Not that I do that 24/7, but that is just the reason I want a faster SS, not for freezing motion.

EDIT: it's obviously only one stop and can be worked around just fine. I would just prefer it if possible ha not a big deal. My cameras I currently own max at 1/4000 but are about to get electronic shutters up to much higher :D

F1.4/1.8 is so small. No idea why to shoot that low. I hated how 1.8 looked for me. Just me though. I can see it maybe for night shooting but the focus area is so small..

Just a scenario ha I shoot wide open in low light on the street and don't have a problem. In broad daylight I shoot around 5.6 for street stuff unless I'm wanting to isolate the subject for whatever reason, then I'll stop it down. I just wanted to point out that a higher shutter speed makes more lighting scenarios possible, not just freezes motion.

    It's really kinda big :D

One thing about lenses is they typically are not their "best" at either end of the scale. So 1.2, 1.4, or 1.8 give you the advantage of some room to work with-aside from their low light capability.

I do think shooting wide open means you should be familiar with DOF at the distances you'll be shooting-a lot of people wonder why their shots are OOF at 1.4-they really aren't, the DOF can be pretty shallow. Prolly gonna want to be careful with DOF when shooting up close

I've probably showed this before but this was shot at about 3 feet and f/1.2. As you can probably tell, the DOF is maybe 3" in front of and behind the focus point.

I know a lot of folks don't like the bokeh these lenses make but I think it's pretty cool plus it let's you shoot even if you can't see anything :D OK, maybe not.

one winning point of the D750 is the wifi. I have a D700, and it is great, but I only push it in the iso range, and not the other capabilities(FPS, CLS, etc). shutter speed? I dont shoot anything that fast moving or super bright to warrant that 1/8000s shutter speed.

I think the d750 is a modern upgrade to the d700: wifi capability, decent pixel count, and higher iso.

and remember, with more pixels, the greater your file sizes are, which means if your computer isn't up to snuff in processor speed and hard drive size, you'll probably want to upgrade that as well.

but for my next venture, I want a canon body since I can put a tilt shift adapter on that and use my mamiya lenses. can't do that with a nikon body
