Anybody want to come take pictures for our wedding in August? Pricing out photographers and it's ridiculous how much it costs! Haha

Paying for professional work is worth it.

    Just saying.

Constant battle in the audio world too. People don't want to pay for a professional studio anymore. But it is so worth it.

    w000t!

Your wedding day is pretty important. You want someone who has done it before and who can get all the shots your bride wants. I don't wanna say you get what you pay for but you get what you pay for.

    Well think about it.

They will be ther the whole time at the ceremony and at the reception and more. Shooting all day and into the night. That's 10-14 hours of work for them.

    Cost of all thier gear

They usually have a second shooter on hand.

Then there is the editing...my god..the editing..

HOURS and HOURS of editing to get them to you quickly.

    2k..seems cheap.

So true. I just shot my wife's sisters wedding here in Chile and was exhausted at the end of the day mentally. Was a lot of fun but definitely an eye opener. I'm still in the south of Chile and won't get them on a computer till I get home next week but I think I didn't miss anything  dreading all the editing ahead of me... Filled up ~80Gb of SD card already and have 5 days left  trip of a lifetime though!!!

The biggest thing I can say is check references. Not just on the images but how long it takes them to get them back to you. We paid our wedding photographer $1500. Which is about going rate for someone that's good around here. We checked out her work and it was pretty good. She took our engagement photos, took about a month to get them back but we were happy with them when we did get them. Fast forward to the wedding. She shot ceremony and a little of the reception then we had her do a couple with us holding signs that said thank you for our thank you cards. She said she would get those to us next day, we told her no big we were hear to Alaska for 10 days. We get back from AK, nothing. We bugged her for a month before we just sent out regular thank you cards. Two months later we got just those thank you images. 6 months later we got the cd with images to pick from to have printed. Almost a year later after threatening to take her to court we got our prints. They were printed at Wal mart. Half of them were out of focus, the editing was absolutely terrible. We ended up finding another photographer to do some one year anniversary stuff and we even dressed up in our wedding clothes and had her recreate a few do we could hang something on our wall. I don't mean to freak you out haha just saying check references.

I'm excited to see what you got when you get back.

I shot two wedding on back to back weekends about a month ago and it was a TON of editing. Really small weddings too ha

One thing to look at is their print or CD packaging prices. A lot of photographers have that as a main part of their income. It stinks but sometimes you LOVE a photographer's work and then find out you only get a few shots with their package and have to buy a certain number of prints and stuff to get them. Some are very limited in what you get as a final product, while others give you a lot more.

That said, if you really can't find anyone and the timing is right I'd be willing :D ha

buy nice or buy twice. oh wait, that almost can't apply. but this is your wedding, and moments can't be redone.

it is not unheard of to fly in a good photographer. but again, you need to get one that you can reasonably afford.

here are some photographers whose work I enjoy looking at
