Cropping makes it worse as it just becomes blurry.

Looks pretty noisy and is probably low resolution.

What camera are you using? And what are your settings?

Did you use live view and zoom in to get your focus right?

I'm puzzled guys and I need some help.

You guys inspired me to take some 'star' pictures tonight with all that you guys have been posting and after taking a few and uploading onto Lightroom, it appears I may have an issue with either my lens and/or camera. I've never done star shots and don't really do long exposure shots so maybe I don't know what I'm talking about but there seems to be some slight haze/smudge on my lens or camera. Or are they faint clouds that are unseen with the naked eye?

Camera had a full clean back in October and the lens I bought used this summer and haven't had a clean yet.

    Camera: Canon T4i
    Lens: Canon 24mm f/1.4 L (Original)
    S/S: 15"
    ISO: 200

Thoughts? Here are two from tonight..

Here are some other long exposure shots I've done, doesn't appear to have those haze/smudges.

^ I'm guessing those are clouds/ pollution that are you are picking up.

Good to know, especially coming from you. You've got killer shots and I enjoy looking at them every time you post.

    X2

Just haze. You won't get super crisp clear sky's unless your a long ways from any civilization.

Which I can tell you're not as the sky is yellow.

    Don't worry about it.

What you're seeing are clouds. I love the way they "move" during long exposures too.

One thing you might want to do is increase your ISO from 200 to 3200 or 6400. You will see more noise but you can mitigate that by using lens correction in Lightroom and noise reduction either in camera or in Lightroom-btw, in camera, noise reduction takes the same amount of time as the exposure would.

With his level of camera that will be high of ISO. Won't look good at all. 800-1000 is enough.

I shoot at 1250 and 30s and get the best results that way

3200 will be OK. Not great but as I said, noise reduction will help a lot.

    No, I didn't. I'll try that.

    I'm using a D5100 with Nikkor 55-300 lens.

    My shot this night was:
    1/1000
    ISO 320
    f/5.6

My shots of the moon came out better when using my older 55-200 when shooting at dusk. I'll have to go back and what what others are using and practice.

Hmm. Can you have a look at the quality settings and make sure you're saving files at the highest quality? Also, when you are saving from your edit program, you want to save and high quality as well.

Full ome lift, nitro charger sports all 4 corners (rear shocks relocated), Dakar pack w/ AAL, 882 coils, diff drop, toytec 1" shackles, trail gear low profile front bumper, Tuff Stuff winch, bamf sliders, RAT skids, BAMF Bed Rack, Tepui Kukenam RTT, RAT rear bumper,
I think this counts... Still need to clean up some of the backdrop. Did this for work and it came out pretty good.
