Well, I managed to win $160 in a football pool last week at work...first time I ever did it and I don't even keep up with football anymore haha. So to celebrate I went out that night and picked up a new Sony 50mm f1.8 for my A6000 :D

Been using a 19mm since I got my camera so the fresh glass was a ton of fun to play around with. Some test shots I took last night and edited with the Lightroom app. Have yet to see these on anything but my iPhone screen so hopefully they came out okay.

Did someone on here buy the Tamron 15-30 2.8?

I am looking at getting a lens for aurora photography and am considering it as a option? I have the Canon 16-35 f4 and it's a awesome landscape lens, just a little slow for northern lights. I owned a sigma lens once and had nothing but problems and said I'd never own a non canon lens again. I read nothing but good things about the Tamron and played with it a little at my camera shop. The thing feels solid! My other choice is the 24II prime which is super fast and ideal for night time other than running into framing difficulties. I thought about trading my current 16-35 for the 2.8 version but the f4 is so much sharper and suited for landscapes I grew pretty fond of it.

    Thoughts anyone?

Messing around on Wednesday and took this photo. Still don't know what I'm doing. Just dial in to auto mode and click away. Gotta do some reading and maybe make a cheat sheet until I can memorize the basics.

Hey Sr. Chief I thought you were officially retired now and done with that line of work?! Nice job! I have always liked Sun Flares and Starbursts.

I am still learning too, a cheat sheet is a good idea IMO. I never shoot in auto mode once you get out of it and comfortable you likely will not go back to it. The most helpfully read I have done to date is Bryan Peterson's Understanding Exposure Also there is a Weekly Photography Challenge Thread on here, this weeks challenge is light I think you should enter your picture! I have learned a lot from the challenges too. I don't always participate many times I do take pictures but am not happy the outcome. Every once in awhile I even push myself to the artsy fartsy part of the brain LOL. Did this one last year for a light challenge
    [IMG]

Can't seem to come up with anything better for this one and too busy working to play this week. Every time I have participated I have learned something though. Highly reccomend for the learning experience. And your doing well.

Thanks for the heads up. I retired in July. But I know a guy who purchased a surplus PBR. (Patrol Boat, River). Refurbed it a couple years ago, and we took it by water from Napa to Petaluma, for the Petaluma Veterans Day Parade.

You got it. Max size is 1200 along the longest length. Picture have to be taken after the challenge is issued and only one entry per week. Deadline is midnight your local time. That is pretty much it!

Edit: Forgot to add that is a pretty cool friend that has his own PBR!

Yup! Just as @Cold Iron said!

That PBR is rad lol dual 240H's up front
Edit: nvm those look older than 240's haha I saw the spade grips and assumed. The one on the back seems to be a 240B if I'm not mistaken

Twin 50's. However, they are fake, so probably makes them look different. Too expensive to have real ones, not to mention the hassle of dealing with BATF. The M60 is real, just has the bolt removed.
