I am off to a bad start...a couple of weeks ago I had my camera bag stolen. :( I was left with nothing but my D70s body which I keep at home, my D300 and all my lenses were snatched...it's been a sad sad sad few weeks for me.

I have KOH coming up and I don't even have a lens to pair to my D70...so I'm not sure what I am going to do at the moment.

    That really sucks.

Did you file a police report?

If you have homeowners insurance it should cover them even if they were not in your home.

Rent something if you need to shot soon.

    Check the pawn shops

    Good luck, Paul

Homeowner's only covers what's in your home. You can get a separate policy for certain items no matter where you take it. I've considered getting the same for guitars and now my camera equipment.

Not sure what you can do without the serial numbers...maybe check to see if they're printed on the manuals or box? Even with it, it'll be a long shot. I wish you the best of luck!

Bolded part is not true as a blanket statement. My homeowners policy has a Coverage C section (or 3 or III) that covers personal property used inside and outside the home-including "Off Premises Coverage"
You can also schedule valuable items on homeowners or renters policies for extra coverage-which is a good idea for the replacement camera equipment in this case.

Yes, as I said you can get coverage for individual items, but in the general sense, your personal property isn't automatically covered by homeowners insurance if it leaves your property...only if you've set it up coverage for said items. I didn't know that it was still under the homeowners policy at that point though.

Again- NOT A TRUE BLANKET STATEMENT. I am looking at my policy right now and it clearly states "Off Premises Use" in the section about Personal Property.
I've also discussed this topic (and several others) with my mother and her boss-Both of whom sell insurance.
Maybe your company writes a different/cheaper policy, maybe your state has different legal requirements...but you can not say that homeowners only pays items inside the home covered...cause it just ain't true everywhere you go.
