Cool ass video.......I kinda made one like that, only it was drive your Tacoma to work day and the whole thing was from the light bar perspective on front bumper. 4 a.m. going in and 4 p.m. coming home in I-10 rush hr traffic. This video is much cooler than 30 miles of freeway traffic without any editing.

So I need opinions. I am going on a road rally this weekend and want to film it. I was thinking about doing a time lapse with my Hero3. I've never used the time lapse feature before and the rally should be about 4 hours of driving time. I have a 64gig memory card and my question is what setting should I put the camera on? I figured I would decrease the image quality to 7mp, but I just don't know how many seconds I should have between pictures. Any info is welcome!

I can tell you one thing, the battery probably won't last that long. Best I could ever do for a timelapse was around 1-1/2 to 2 hours.

If you can find it, download a copy of the app MiLapse. It's a Timelapse calculator that will help you sort all that out. There are other TimeLapse calculators too.

I'd experiment and see what frame rate you like. Remember, 24 frames is one second of video so if you want to make that four hours in to 5 minutes, you will need 7200 frames (1 every 2s and at least 84G of SD). In to a minute, 1440 frames (1 every 10s and 16G). You can see why a calculator is handy :D

If the cam is inside, use the frame mount and a USB charger to keep th camera running.

Gotta hand it to you, i agree with everyone else, great camera work and amazing edit skill!

I would love to know what settings you are running on the camera(s) and what software you used.

Any after effects or was it all just in the editor? About how long did the edit take?

The smaller the interval the smoother the time lapse will look. I would do it at every second or half second. Your battery won't last 4 hours anyway.

If you want to record the entire event you'll need more than just the one battery like everyone else has stated. The Hero3 series are real power hungry. I got around that issue with a battery eliminator from Cam-do. I wired mine to a cigarette plug and leave it plugged in while recording.

I don't use GoPros. Frankly they are crap, piss poor build quality, I broke 4 of them in 7 months (GoPro worked with me on them till the 4th one died, where I just returned them and got everything refunded). Then I bought a ContourRoam2 about a year ago and the thing has been superb, no issues with it at all and I now swear by them as a superior camera for anything I need POV for. I have 3 of them now for various activities.

Here is a clip from my Contour.

Note: There is no editing on this video, it's straight off the camera which was mounted on the less than sturdy piece body work on a go kart, doing indoor karting at like 10pm this past winter.

This one is a little more stable:

    This is true.
Memory card capacity and type factor in. A speed class 10 card is required to do this. Also, you need to decide if you want to change cards while shooting. Otherwise, at 1s intervals, the timelapse will require 98G of space. Slightly more than the 64G he has to work with.

Charge the camera into the USB port or use a battery eliminator.

Thanks for the comments, it was really fun to do. I shot mostly at 1080 60P, Wide (not super wide). There were a few shots I did narrow. I used the app to frame the shot, then turned off wifi and just used buttons to start/stop record.

Edited in Premiere. No after effects, just some gate flares for the dissolves. Edit took about 40 hours. The hardest part was sifting through all the GoPro footage :D

I've been really wanting to do a Tacoma edit. I've got some footage but need way more. Need to find some people in the DFW area up for a shoot. Maybe it would be best to try and request it here? Should I start a new thread with specific shots I'm looking for or should I just list them here?

Thanks for the input everybody. Can you use a battery eliminator with the camera in the waterproof housing with the skeleton back?

I drilled a hole in one of my waterproof backs and installed a rubber grommet. I wouldn't submerge my setup, but it will certainly handle rain.

If you've bought any backpack accessories you'll likely have extra housings laying around. I used an old housing that was scratched up from abuse.

You can also use the skeleton back, it just won't be rain/mud proof.

Just get another back and drill that. $10 from GoPro-the "BacPac Backdoor kit".

I've only got the waterproof and the skeleton back. Where could I get the 12v power cable before Saturday?
