must be one hell of a camera, some of those pics look animated almost, I would love to be able to take pics like that. I have a canon g9 but I dont know how to get the best shots out of it. I want to take some nice night shots but they always come out too dark.

For no flash night shots a tripod is a must. Can you manually control the aperature or shutterspeed with your camera?

yes actually

In the creative zone you can adjust your settings manually. Tv mode allows you to select the shutter speed but chooses the aperture value for you. Av mode does the opposite, allowing you to select the aperture value and choosing the shutter speed for you. M mode allows you the full control to choose both the shutter speed and aperture value.

If your pics are too dark at night you could do one or any combination of the these three thing.
Raise your ISO
Lower Shutter Speed
Lower aperature

I suggest full manual mode and just play with with any of the three settings tweaking it until you get the preferred exposure. That's the beauty of digital, you won't be wasting film.
