    They may or may not require campus credentials. Usually they will for any hardware or software that is discounted because of academic programs/promos.

    Also, it is important to understand that the License Agreement with Photoshop for academic can be different depending on how it's purchased (i.e. restricts commercial usage).

    Little late but...

    I use Photoshop Elements 7.0. It's $99. If you're just doing hobbyist stuff, it works pretty good. You can even use some of the Photoshop tutorials to learn it. If you find it's not doing everything you need, you can always upgrade it.

    Gimp is a good free one.

    Look on ebay for the older versions of it.

    I believe CS5 is coming out now. Look around for CS4 and CS3 versions.

    A lot cheaper and totally new and perfectly legal. Last year we got CS3 web premium with Photoshop, Dreamweaver, and a bunch of other stuff I can't remember.
