I could use some guidance

I hate to say this, because I'm stubborn and prideful, but I need some prayers for figuring out what I need to do to get moving again.

I've been stuck in a rut basically since I joined TW. (Not because of TW by the way ) I went through a pretty bad break-up, bouts of severe depression, along with my second semester of college. Now I'm trying to get some sort of direction again and find what I was put here to do. I don't know how to get out of this and I really need ya'lls prayers and help.

Thanks,

Alex.

I'll look into that. I dont have much spare time this summer as I'm working full time for the most part.

The main thing i'm having difficulty with is school. I dont know where to go for school within the next couple of years. Or what I want to do while i'm there There are so many options, including military, that I'm not sure how to sort all of them out. I can't not go to school though.

Can you go part time? Or work and go to school?

Your feelings aren't unusual or weird and you're not a directionless person if you don't know what you want to do or be or what college is right for you. This is perfectly normal. Think about who you are- can you handle a huge campus or do you want something small? Do you want a lot of college life or are you there to get your degree and get out? Be brutally honest about yourself. Talk to people and see where they went to college or what they majored in or what branch of the military they were in and why they liked it- or didn't. Visit a college or two or six. You'll know when you find the right one for you.

You will find your place, I promise. Don't despair. Your way of thinking about it is actually good. You're thinking for yourself and wondering what is best for you and not being pushed by friends or family or social status. That never ends well.

Good Luck!

Join the military. It will help straighten everything out. And if its not for you u can always get out after your first enlistment. But you will always have lots of great knowledge and experience the military gives you.

Or try art or something? Get a video game system??
Having something to do with your time to relax and take your focus off the funk.

So far, my plan is to work my ass off full time this summer and save up money. My managers are wanting me to o full time, but I really don't want to yet. I'm for sure going to school again in the fall but I guess, unless circumstances change, I'll be going to the local community college again. My problem with that it's really tough to get motivated to do work that I've already been through for 13 years. And there's really no, spirit I guess would be the right word for it. It's like a "go to class, take test, get grades, get out" type of atmosphere and I'm not enjoying that at all. Plus I'm not learning anything new there. I'm really looking for a smaller campus with good programs. I don't want to necessarily "get my degree and get out" but I don't want to spend forever in college.

I'm really wanting to start looking into that. My issue with this is, at least in my mind, no degree=crappy jobs. My ASVAB was pretty high up there apparently, so I'm able to get a higher position job, but I'd like to be able to go to school too and get some sort of degree. I know Officer positions are really only offered to those that have degrees. And if I'm gonna do this, I'm going to go all out.

This is actually what led me to posting something up here. I'm starting with me.

As of right now, I'm slowly learning guitar. I'd love to volunteer in my community or help some people in some way too. As for video games, I play way too much I'm trying to cut down on that because even though it does get the focus off all the crap, it's not helping me get out of it.

And I just wanted to also say thank you all for posting. TW really is an amazing site full of extraordinary people.

Glad we were able to throw some ideas out there. In the end just do something that makes you happy. If its being a clown or whatever just do it. Make time for things that make you happy and the rest you will be able to handle. Your way to young to be stressing about things this much.

I went to community college first, so I know exactly how you feel. I felt the same way, always in a rut and wandering around. When I finally transferred to a small college, I loved it. It was completely different.

My brother also went to community college but, unlike me, he made the most of his time there. He got to know his teachers, joined the honor society, and tutored. He applied to a large state school and got in. His community college teachers and advisers were wonderful. They called the state school on his behalf and got WAY more credits transferred than I did when I transferred, took up a collection among the teachers to pay for his books, and threw him a small party.

The moral to the story is: Even though you feel like community college may be a waste of time, it isn't. Do the best you can. Get to know your teachers. Participate. It'll make a huge difference.
