Marvel Mystery Oil

Ok, so I have a friend at work who swears by this stuff. He puts it in his gas and engine. I look at the viscosity of it and it just dont look like a good idea to replace a quart of oil with this stuff. I know viscosity changes at different temperatures but I just cant bring myself to try it! Maybe I will try some in the gas first. Has anyone here used Marvel mystery oil? If so what is your opinion on it? Thanks.

 

I wouldn't do it, I use lucas in my gas tank, and synthetic oil. But you never know

 

If it has "mystery" in the name, it must be good! Just kidding. I've never heard of using it in the engine oil, but have used it (long ago) in the gas tank. Supposed to help clean the injectors or something? I'm sure it can't hurt too much, but don't do something to void your warranty. Why do you want to use it? Is something wrong? If you've got no problem, then I'd say don't fix it...

 

No I have no problems with mine, shes only got 7800 miles on her. My friend just bought a new subaru sti and he put it in his engine immediately with mobil1. Hes just very confident about it and I never heard of it before so I was just curious if anyone else uses it.

 

Im hoping were talking about 2 stokes, cause I would never put ANY oil in my gas.

 

Not two strokes--this stuff isn't that kind of oil. It's one of those "good fer what ails ya" kind of things. It's so thin and volatile, I'd be worried putting it in my oil, but many swear by it as a fuel additive. I'd save it for when you've got a mystery problem and the only alternative is much more expensive than a can of mystery oil. Then what have you got to lose?!?

 

My buddy swears by it, so I put about 3/4 qt in my 97 cavalier oil. Ever since I've had oil pressure issues. Granted the car was 10 years old at the time and had 125k mi, but I probably won't do it again.

 

I'd just stick with your favorite brand of oil and not worry about oil additives. As long as you change your Oil in a timely manner you won't need an additive. Oil Additives like Lucas have been know to "Foam" your oil. As far as Fuel additives or fuel system cleaners, some of the better ones seem to work decent on higher mileage vehicles. Looks like you've got a 2010, Drive it and enjoy it!

no reason at all to use it.

 

I used to use it in my air tools, using as an additive in my car or truck hell no. As I mentioned, used too, I stopped using it in my air tools, no way would use it in any engine.

I wouldn't use any oil additive in my truck, excepet for maybe Lucas.

 

STP Oil treatment?

 

I do not use any brand of oil, gas, or coolant treatments in my truck, ever.
