Skidrow transmission skid plate

Anyone have trouble installing this skidplate?

The front mounting holes don't seem to line up with anything.
I have a bone stock 99 extracab 4x4 that I bought recently with the
stock '2-part' skidplate (the front part protects the radiator and
middle part protects the crankcase and steering rack).

The middle part attaches with 2 front bolts, and 2 rear bolts that
utilize threaded holes in the IFS x-member. I figured that these
2 threaded holes would be the front attachment points for the new
tranny skid plate. 2 hexhead bolts are supplied for this purpose.
With the rear attachment carraige bolts bolted to
the tranny x-member, the front bolt holes are about 3 inches short
of those threaded holes in the x-member. What am I missing?

Is the front part of the skidplate supposed to just be wedged between
the middle skidplate and the frame?

Not exactly a 'solid' connection as advertised.
