Thanks for responding with your similar transmission. I had been considering getting a Toyota truck for many years. I was excited because of Toyota's reputed quality. I must admit that I am greatly disappointed. The quality in the body and trim is evident. But, the drive train has serious faults. The transmission slips so badly when slowing to first gear and then accelerating that I have stopped turning left in front of incoming traffic. Its just too dangerous. This seems to be a problem with many other Tacoma owners. I'm still hoping that Toyota will be able to fix the problem. So far, they have done nothing.

Whoever the engineer was that suggested to NOT install intermittent wipers standard should commit harikari. Didnt know mine didnt have em until the 1st rainfall about 2wks after I bought the truck. No tiedown hooks in the nose of the bed is also senseless. I'm sure there is afew more but I cant think of em right now

The thing I dislike the most is the low speed driving. It is real bad. But, oh well. I also don't like the automatic shifter.

    of course
Dashboard lights do not go off. I kept thinking my headlights were on until I got somewhere dark or someone yelled at me. Now my headlights are always on to avoid mistakes.

    1. No bed light!! 2. They should have a button to push so when putting a trailer on a night the reverse lights stay on. So i usually leave it on in reverse with the e-brake on. 3. Cheap mud flaps that get ripped off easily and cost over $150 to replace. 4. No sunroof. 5. No leather. 6. Seats leave water marks when your wet and get in (having a boat this happends almost every weekend). 7. Homelink (garage door opener is to small to clip on sunvisor). Overall i love this truck, i wouldn't drive anything else but a tacoma. Looks great, interior is great, perfect size, back seats fold down so i can keep the dogs from getting the seats dirty. Great power for towing the boat. Cannot wait till the new tacoma comes out.

i hate the stock head unit, does not warn you about putting in CD-Rs it cost me 500 to get it fixed. orange int. lights, fog lights not on with running lights, no bed light.

none except for crappy hub caps and floor mats.
Here's a few things I hate, but most might be because its old. Number one- the truck rattles. Sounds like the exhaust manifold is rattling. Its done this for years.

Secondly, the truck has really bad sound dampening. As in when I get on the freeway, I can't hear the radio unless I crank it.

Thirdly, the seat belts have lost all of their springiness. They don't retract. Seems like Toyotas do this a lot.

lastly, I hate the way the interior smells. Its always smelled like this. A nasty plastic smell.

I have been tossing either a Tacoma Prerunner TRD Offf Road so I can get the Locker when towing my boat, or the Frontier Pro 4x4 Because the Dern Nissan people don't have a Locker for any 4x2.

However, A Lot of the issues mentioned here are like GEEEzzz, "Can i live with all those Dern Annoying things?"

Have any of you tested the Frontier and found the Toyota better?

crappy leaf packs that always creek after a while, ticking out of engine, no options for dark colored interior seating and ugly cloth polka dotted armrests ,to many useless cup holders, cheap mudflaps, big goofy antenna (they should put the "shark fin" style on top or the roof like some other car manufactures . those are the biggies but other than that the truck is great

Being this is my first Toyota I didn't know if this was "Normal" I didn't think it could be, so I was happy to see your post. This is very irritating and I can see where it could be a real safty issue. I haven't called the dealership but am going to. Is this just an "09" issue or do others share this situation??? Doc

Hi- tig1 calling, what bothers me is when you shift from first to second and it seems to grab, not grind, but grab in the gears.the dealer says it is just a breaking in period it will go away.i bought it in january 2009,so i have been shifting on low rpm's 1500-2000 and it seems to work ok.nothing happens from third to second.
    later tig1:confused:

I HATE the bench seat on my truck has no lumbar support... it kills my back after any long trip. The wife hates the fact there is no "oh shit" handle above the door its on the pillar. I also dont like the cheap tailgate and armrests. Other than that minor stuff this is the best truck ive owned.

I've bumped my head a couple times reaching into the backseat of my DC. I'm about 6'0". Maybe if I go to 265/75/16's, it'll be just enough lift to keep me from bumping my head. :D
