    I think it's a government safety thing.

I've never seen a factory system that had automatic on any window other than the driver, and I've never seen a US or Japanese vehicle with automatic-up.

Personally, I'd like to have a bypass for the auto-down. Some vehicles are worse than others, but it's a pain when you just want to crack the window and it locks into "down" and you have to fight it.

What's the deal with the ticking? When I was test driving singer I could only hear it with the Windows down and it was still really quiet. ??

The rear seats in the access cab and lack of payload....only two things.

1st Gen Owner, here it goes:

    1) The cliche clock location.

    2) The flimsy tailgate.

    3) No cargo lamps.

    4) No factory fog lights.

    5) Dash rattle.

    6) Plastic trim on outside edge of seat cracks and breaks.

    7) Factory foam cup holder tabs didn't last very long.

    8) The ticking engine.

    9) No diesel or small V8 option (think 4-Runner). I mean for God sakes how can a 4-Runner get one and not a Tacoma?

Hear ye, hear ye, 90% of everything I just listed is ticky-tack stuff. Most of it is frivolous. The fact that I list that stuff means I'm not listing bigger problems. Overall, Toyota has built a stupendous truck. However, they need to realize the reason a healthy percentage of folks are still buying the big three is because they want diesel or V8 power. Toyota, wake the eff up.

Between the wife and I, we make a healthy salary. I'm still driving my First Gen because no one, I repeat no one, is making a truck I want to buy now. No offense 2nd Gen guys, but I want a V8 or diesel in a mid-sized truck. It isn't that I don't want a newer or bigger truck, or can't afford to get one, I just don't see anything that screams "come pay $30,000+ for me and be less more that what you already have."

RUST!! Crappa-dingle, the rust has cost me some money. I don't mean the 'beauty marks' on the fenders. I had two different repairs to the chassis where suspension mates to the frame. One up front, one in back. Otherwise, the truck just starts and takes me where I point it.

Probably mentioned already, but I was disappointed that there was not aux plug in for an iPod. I have an 06 and that should have been a given. IMO

What year is yours? Toyota was recalling some Tacos due to rusting frames. They were buying them back for 150% of retail value. I would look into it.

This is kinda minor but I don't like how the seat belt latches in the rear seat always seem to wind up pushed under the seat. Every time someone rides in the back either they or I have to lift the seat to retrieve them.

On my 07', the things I hate are no manual transfer case, no manual locking hubs, no rear disc brakes. I also hate not being able to hook up my iphone to the stereo. I also wish this truck had the settings like my wifes Corolla does that tells you how many miles to empty, avg. mpg, avg mph, time driven, etc.

I love everything about my truck - it's super comfortable for me and my family and does what I need it to do.

But I, too, have rust, worse than I thought when I bought it a couple of weeks ago. I lost my '98 to frame rust (and a great buyback program). But now I'm looking at rust again. I hate that.

Heated mirrors and heated leather seats would be nice. I had them in my last two vehicles before the Taco and miss them. Overall though the Taco is hands down the best vehicle I have owned.

A factory power sliding rear window would not hurt either.

OHHH ... I would love the heated mirrors more than any add-on. Other than real rust proofing :roll eyes:

Poor front/rear visibility. Small windshield. Huge A-pillars create side blind spots. Dash too close knees (should be further back). Cheap interior plastics that scratch easy (certain finishes should never be used in a truck). General claustrophobic feeling all around despite being a much larger vehicle than its predecessor. I'm only 5'8 but can't seem to get over the ergonomic flaws and it's making me question whether or not I want to keep this truck long term. Obviously it's superior mechanically to everything on the market, but none of the other small trucks out there seem to have these design quirks. I get the impression Toyota focused on boosting crash ratings while driver ergonomics took a back seat and the design was rushed out the door. Test drove a 1st gen Taco and it fit like a glove, had perfect visibility, more durable interior, and felt more connected to the road but I had to go with a 2nd gen due to it being the better financial investment. Also owned a ranger a while back and while it rode like a truck from the 90's, the proportions were agreeable. Does anyone else have ergonomic issues with the design of the 2nd gen body style? Any consolation?

Otherwise, the truck is damn near perfect for what I need it for, gets solid MPG, dead reliable, the best looking of the midsize trucks, and has potential for mods to keep things interesting later. Just not sure if I want to keep it after I'm done with my stint at DirecTV this Fall.

Satellite radio reception stinks. I loose the signal driving down a tree lined road. Does anybody know if there is anything out there to boost the signal?
