I've read through all the dislikes... I'm confused. I gather it's a mixed bag of 2/4wd in here and all years/gens of tacoma. I picked up a 2015 CC SB TRD offroad on Saturday. Couldn't be much happier. Yeah, I miss heated seats/mirrors and an auto up on the drivers side window would be good. I prefer a handle to shift into four-wheel-drive of course…. Outside of that – the engine runs super quietly (no ticking) The cab is very quiet, the power feels great, The build quality seems incredible – I've never had a vehicle that sounded so solid when you slam the doors… It feels like this thing is built like the proverbial brick shitter. Temperatures here have been hovering in the teens during the day and down to zero at night with a little bit of snow – so I've been in and out of four-wheel-drive – that said, my first tank returned about 17mpg. I've always lusted after a Tacoma crew cab… My dad had a 2000 4runner that did 150k trouble free miles (towing a bass boat a lot of the time) and now has 100k on a 2005 V8 4Runner with zero issues. In fact, we just replaced the brake pads at 100K – factory pads… And there was still some life left in them! I'm trying to find the faults in this truck but I'm just not coming up with that many… It seems like everyone here loves their truck, but there are quite a few complaints. Is the 2015 an improved machine?? Does my family just get lucky with black toyotas??

Kyle, to post pics, upload your pics to a hosting site (like Photobucket), then copy/paste the link in by clicking on the yellow icon in the edit window. That's the desktop way. Don't use the smartphone for this so somebody else will have to advise there.

How did Joe Walsh put it? "I can't complain - but sometimes I still do."

As far as this thread goes (and this is primarily for others who complain that this thread is just bashing/whining), it's a given that the large majority of posters here love their Tacomas. I know I do - it's a great truck and the best vehicle I've owned in my 55 years. Having also just bought a used Prius, I'm quickly becoming a Toyota guy all the way. However, there are certain things about ANY car/truck that are irritating/maddening/illogical/poorly designed/poorly constructed/etc. That doesn't mean most of us would buy differently. But Toyota could have done it better and they could improve on later models.

And - I think this is the most important purpose of this thread - this thread surfaces issues that others may have found a solution for or may still devise an aftermarket solution for. Those enterprising/engineering types who can figure out how to remedy some of these shortcomings can make some cash and help those of us who want to buy those solutions. Example: the weak tailgate has been resolved/mitigated by several members here who are making a profit on their solutions (I hope).

Anyway, love your truck. I'm sure you got a good one. Welcome to TW.
(You might want to lock up your debit card.) ;)

Thanks for the pointers. Yeah, I use photobucket but tried to post an image like I do over on advrider and it doesn't work. I'm sure I'll figure it out... No big deal, a stock tacoma for now.

I get the point of the thread, I was more wondering if some of the gripes (namely: frames breaking at the motor mount, crappy leaf packs, crappy sound systems, loud cabins, ticking engines, weak brakes) were problems with earlier trucks or if these are ongoing issues. I don't seem to have any of them. Yet.

Haven't had my 2014 long enough to attest to the frame, leaf packs and engine ticking.

Yes, the cabin is rather loud and the sound system is suboptimal. Haven't noticed any brake issues.

I would like to have :
    1-heated steering wheel
    2-heated mirrors
3-an updated odometer/rpm cluster, it would include a digital screen with the option of seeing your mpg/instant gas consumption/see what gear you are in(auto) etc....
But there is nothing i "hate" about my tacoma, there is only things i would improve ;)

I dislike the fact that my passenger side doors rattle (access cab) and that under the armrest cloth that plastic part is broken and doesn't support any weight (driver side). And that it vibrates hard under acceleration in overdrive (5 speed manual) and that I only get 20.5 mpg and have so little power (2.7l). And at idle there is a knocking sound in the transmission. And no air cabin filter.
Don't get me wrong I love my truck. I bought it at 187,000 miles and it's a 05 (first model year of the new body style) so qurks are to be expected

heated mirrors, lighted cup holders, backup lights, backflip cover, box lights, raised diff breather, solenoid tailgate lock, flashlight holder,
4l should be listed as a 3.9l so I wont have to pay the increase to fund the carbon tax in Quebec

Quebec has silly laws lol. Isn't our engine 3956 cc, so it has to be rounded up to 4 L...

Rear suspension, what a joke, been drving all types and mfgs of truck for forty years and never seen anything so lame. I heard inadition to the "cheeseclip" solution soon to be put forward by Toyota, they will turn the bed upside down, lest you be tempted to haul anything.

Considering the double cab both long and short bed weigh more than the access cab I think you may have miss read that

Word of advice, if you or anybody hears anything from that rear suspension, check it out. I just had a broken leaf spring come real close to severing a rear break line.

I would recommend keeping an eye on it, the leaf broke sometime since the last tire rotation.

To shift into either 4hi or 4lo then back to 2hi is a lesson in patients and very frustrating. There have been times that I could not get out of 4hi or 4lo and ended up spend 45 min troubleshooting this problem, seriously wish that toyota would have a manual transfer case option for those who want it.
