I'd suggest installing a locking tailgate handle first, then consider what tonneau cover to use, as some release only from the inside, which would itself be locked within the closed tailgate.

As an example, I have a Pop & Lock 8521, and an Extang TriFold. The P&P is well made, but mounts with only one bolt, which needs attention to prevent loosening up. The Trifold is well built, but as with all tonnaeu covers, you'll need to tweek the weatherstripping to get a tight seal.

Niether are installed yet, as my new Taco is in transit from Assembly to Dealer as I type this! I have all my mods ready to install, just sitting on my hands waiting!

That is what I have. I ran the pop and lock to the passenger side so it only unlocks after two presses and the bak flip has to be opened from underneath. I built a small toolbox from some old fencing material I had laying around. If your interested I can add some pics later.:)
