I have seen lot of threads with people asking questions about Tonneau covers, but not many from people who actually own them. So I thought I would just throw this up here in case any one is interested.

I bought the Truck Covers USA - American Roll Cover because from what I have read, it seems to be the best you can get for a roll cover. I ordered it from autocustoms.com and they gave me free shipping, no tax, and it showed up in 3 days.

I installed it by myself and it took about 2 hours. It uses the existing utility rails on the Tacoma so the installation is really straight forward. You do lose the function of all the utility rails though. I wasn't using them much, so I didn't really care.

Here are some photos of the installation. And I even took a fake ad of it, simply because I can. :D

Looks nice...but not sure it's $1,600 nice. I've priced a Leer topper for about the same...decisions.

I have to ask the question. Does this cover rattle going down the road?

I had the same concern before purchasing it. So far it has been extremely solid and I haven't heard it rattle at all. I've been off road a little too and it held in place very well. Because it bolts to the rail system, it seems very secure compared to other covers that use clamps or drilling.

Justin, nice truck. I was in the market for this brand and had a question for you. I'm wondering what the measurement is bottom of bed to top of the roller cover? I'm looking at getting the Yeti 65 and was wondering if there's going to be an issue with closing. The Yeti Coolers said 16" tall. Could you please provide some insight? Thanks for the help.

Hi Chris. I just measured and it looks like the height from the bed to the lowest portion of the cover is about 17.25 inches. The Highest portion of the cover is up to about 18 inches. I have a Tacoma bed mat, so mine is about 17 inches at the lowest part.

I often throw 5 gallon buckets back there and they clear with no problem at all. Also, the cover closes every 12 inches so you can close most of the cover and still carry taller stuff in the rest of the bed. Hope this helps.

Justin. Yes it helps a lot. Thanks for including the bed mat measurement as well. Take it easy.

With this cover installed, I'm guessing that the bed rail behind the cab is no longer functional? I use this rail to mount my mountain bike too.
Also, how much does this roll over weigh?

The bed rails behind the cab actually have to be removed for proper install. Not sure how much it weights, but I was able to install it myself.

HTX is correct that the cab rail has to be removed. And you also lose he functionality to the side rails because the cover attaches to them.
But, I know the Truck Covers USA sells a bike rack that goes on top.

Darn, as much as I want one of these, the loss of the rails is a deal breaker for me.

My uncle has a american roll cover on his truck and loves it. I have been considering it on mine trucknvans.com is not to far from my house and they sell them installed and everything for $1675 for $75 is it even worth doing yourself?

I did it by myself and it took a couple hours but it's really not that difficult. If I were to do it again it would go faster. Hardest part was lifting the container onto the truck without denting or scratching anything. I say save the $75 and find a friend for a couple hours.
I paid $1480 with free shipping and no sales tax.

Can't say I agree. You can still fit quite a bit under the canister. But to each his own.

Bringing the thread back to life! I like it.

I am a big fan of the cover. I never installed the drainage system because it rains just about once every 3 years in California, but it does leak a little if it does actually rain. It's very durable, secure, strong, and American made. I would buy it all over again if I had a chance.

Also, I really like the way it looks.
