e3 Spark Plugs/Reviews
I'm not an expert with spark plugs, but I know that the better the spark is of the plug the better it could be for power and MPG, etc. So I'm trying to do a little research on good brands to use for my Tacoma V6 engine.
From some of the reviews I have read it seems like it is 50/50 on like or dislike for these e3 plugs. Some say they work really well, some say they can't notice a difference. Some even said they had worse MPG's. Some said they worked really well in their naturally aspirated motors, but not so well with their fuel injected engines. I know that you really need to have these plugs tested on a dyno and in a controlled environment for accurate results. There is a video that I saw that shows the guys from horsepower tv doing a dyno test. Their dyno test shows an increase of five horsepower on a naturally aspirated engine using these plugs vs their leading spark plug competitor. So I'm wondering if anyone has used these e3 plugs on our new Tacoma engines on a dyno or what they think of them. Have they noticed better MPG's or a little more horsepower, or what? I also see a lot of guys say they use NGK plugs on here so that is also a plug I would consider using. So tell me what you guys think of these e3 plugs or what other plugs they use and think is the best for our engines. Thanks guys. 21030080a.jpg362070E3Plugjpg_00000011092.jpg

I found out of all the plugs I have tested, that the OEM Denso or NGK plugs give the best performance. I havent tried the E3 or the Pulstar plugs yet.. Im not going to test the E3 plugs, as the OEM Denso plugs have a "V" shape electrode, and produce a very good spark.

For the most part, multiple ground electrode spark plugs are pretty much snake oil. Basic electrical theory will tell you that voltage will take the "path of least resistance". This means that the spark coming off the center electrode will only spark off of one ground electrode and not multiple at the same time.
Only advantage of multiple ground electrode spark plugs is if you have a issue of carbon fouling and this will buy you "some" time before the plug totally fouls. If this is a issue that drives you to multiple ground electrode plugs in the first place, you got worse issues anyways. Splitfire just recently in 2007, settled a lawsuit brought by the Federal Trade Commission and removed most of their claims of increased HP and MPG by using their plugs. Vast majority of people that claim increase MPG and horsepower of installing multiple ground electrode plugs are just really feeling the effect fresh plugs give them. So it is mainly a "placebo" effect more than anything. For 99.99% of us, using the factory spec'd plug will suffice and give the best overall outcome. |

Ive used a OE style Dual Ground Electrode plug (Denso) #3289 from URD.usa for about $6 per plug at one time URD doesntseem to sell this plug anymore the cost alot over the counter close to the price of Iridiums, these platinums are the premium plug recoomendation from Toyota Motors for the 3.4L engine Ive used them twice in my truck with good results since money is an issue Iwill swithch back to Denso Copper OEs next time the NGK cross reference number would be #4302 or BKR5EKPB-11 for Dual Platinums very pricey though will last 60K.

No Dyno results with the E3 plugs, but i just recently put them in my truck and noticed and increase in power (bottom and top end) havent really been able to test the MPG ill get back with the results of that.

Was this a back to back comparo, new plugs to new plugs?

I replaced the factory ngk's at about 80,000 just thought it would be a good idea since it is 9 years old and still had factory plugs. I replaced them with the ngk ix iridium plugs. Didnt notice any hp gain, but picked up about 1-2 mpg's.

So....Any plug would have shown an improvement. The only way to tell is a back to back test. Im guessing the E 3 plugs give less performance then the OEM twin ground plugs.

Im no crazy god at tacomas like you are but i tried Platnium 4's (brand new) and noticed a difference from the NGKs that i had in there. And that same day heard about the E3's and tried them with noticeable power increase. Could of been something else that effected the power gain but i must say i was impressed and so were my friends that also have Tacomas.

Yeah the Platnium 4s replaced the old plug and the E3's felt like i got more power compared to the Platnium 4s. unless your saying the OEMs were just old and it wasn't a fair test.

FWIW, The platinum 4's gave shit performance compared to OEM in my testing.

Hmmm, maybe thats what made the E3's seem so much better. I have the 3.4 you think that might make a difference?

I put the E3 plugs through the ringer and they didn't hold up. Granted it was in a V8 Mopar on methanol, but the porcelain broke. Prior I used both NGK and ND plugs without an issue.
I say stick with the Denso plugs.
