Bed Mat question??

I really enjoy my "09" Tacoma, but have about had it with the "slippery" box bed. So I think I will bite the bullet and purchase a rubber mat, (is this a good idea??) and are there cut-outs for the rear D-rings? (I use them alot), I see that Toyota also offers a carpet like mat or insert, anyone have an opinion on those, Thanks Doc.

Yeah, you can pick them up at the dealer for a little more than 100$.

Check out this thread for cheaper bedmats. And you can always cut out the D-rings yourself...

The bed mats are pretty clutch. I keep my toolboxes back most of the time and they hardly move at all unless I'm driving pretty hard

You can find the DeeZee mat for about $59. Luckily, I got it for $40. It works very well. Nothing moves on it. It is already notched for the rings. It is easy to cut anyways with a sharp razor knife. You should add some additional d-rings while you are at it. The most useful mod I have done on my truck.

I have a Protecta bed mat. I bought it locally for $40. It's awesome!
Look around -there are plenty of good ones out there for cheap.

This is the same one Janster has. I bought one and I am very pleased. Note that it comes as a longbed, so you simply do some trimming with a razor for shortbeds (takes 5 minutes, lines are pre-drawn)

I bought the OEM bed mat that has 'Tacoma' written on it about 6 months back. The mat works great at keeping everything in place when you are transporting cargo. It is a little expensive at 100 bucks, but was well worth the money to me. It is thick, and quite durable too.

price is now $49 + shp... still a great deal, especially if you're placing an order for other stuff. gotta love Summit's shipping policy.

Chickenmunga: did the rubber smell go away completely?

I have the carpet bed rug. I love it. I keep mine under a hard cover though. Supposedly they are very durable and you are able to just hose them off. If I had an open bed however, I would go with the rubber bed mat. Good luck!

It didn't have a real strong smell to begin with, plus I haven't really paid attention. I'll try a whiff test later.

I park outside at work, and then in an unattached garage overnight. I have no camper or tonneau.

Just following up - got a chance to go out and whiff test the mat, I can't smell it unless I'm right up against it. Like I said, that may be different if I had a camper.

I bought one of the bed mats from amazon for $39 shipped a few months ago, they ran out real quick though and have not re-stocked since. I do notice one problem, the mat slides fully forward against the front of the bed and seals the water in from getting out at the drain holes, king of like the issue with the drop in plastic bed liners. What I am thinking about doing is running a bead of black silicone along the backside of the fender wells ( tailgate side ) at the highest point of bed level. The size of the silicone bead will probably be 3/8 of an inch by 3/8 and I'll let it dry before putting the bed mat against it. hopefully it will keep the bed mat from fully sliding to the front of the bed wall...
