I believe the mafcal with the map sensor was for those who are looking to (or already have) s/c their taco. From the sounds of it he ordered the wrong one.

Settle down Bro! Like the several pages before me weren't jacking up this thread. I intially posted here to thank the gentleman who originally posted the how to. Without it there was no way I was going to be able to do this. I thought he did an excellent job. Then I posted my follow up.

I've got this figured out now so hopefully we'll see if I there can be a positive resolution. Yes the one I installed is probably the one with the MAP Sensor hence the vacuum tube and no idea what to do with it. I agree it really isn't that difficult! However with no instructions for the vacuum line its impossible to finish! I still really want to put this on my truck, ironically. Hopefully it works out and I am able to give some glowing comments for the folks at URD.

If a mod wants to move it to the URD forum so be it. This is my product review and my experience. Thanks for the help those of you that are offering it.

hey so if you ask URD for the MAP Cal instructions, those instructions contain what to do with the vac tube. or I can send you the supercharger PDF instructions, there is also a section in there dedicated to the MAP Cal install

My question is why would he continue with the install if its not the right one for his application. He has no mods to the engine nor does he have a s/c. he is basically stock, so i see no bennifits from installing this particular unit in his truck?:confused:

EDIT: i just read were he has an intake, but he still doesnt need that calibrator for his intake he needs the one most of us are running, the non map sensor one!

I think the MAP will still work, in the installation guide I have says you can install it fine before installing the s/c and you wont have issues. I'm pretty sure its just a more expensive method of getting the same effect as the MAF Cal, no harm should come

    Hello all,

First post here... what a great resource for the Tacoma obsessed.

I am looking for a bit of advice as it pertains to the MAF cal and application for my setup. I contacted Gadget at URD and he recommended I go with the 7th injector kit given my setup. Unfortunately, I cannot spring for the injector kit at $800 plus.

    1st gen TRD supercharger
AEM cold air intake (with regret)
    catback exhaust

I am just looking to synch things up a bit for a bit better performance. Do you guys think the URD maf would be suffice?

    Thanks

Final Update. I wanted the unit that was compatible with Turbo in case I decided to go that route. However, I still can't get any detailed instructions on how to install the Vacuum line. And I can't get any shops in the Denver area to install this for less than $500. At this point I am not willing to cut anymore wires. So if anyone is interested in a URD MAF sensor I am willing to part with it for $175 or less.

I've installed the exhaust and the intake so I thought this would be something comparable. And It would have...provided there was instructions. In the end this is not a mod I would recommend for DIYers. Get the Unit without the Vacuum tube and have the wiring harness put on. There is too much that can go wrong that costs a lot of money. I know as I am $800 poorer. Overall this product is not worth a 15 HP gain.

URD seems to be too busy to deal with customers. It could have been as simple as sending me a schematic or a detalied doc but repeatedly I was brushed off by URD after hounding them for over 6 weeks. I even presented alternatives like returning the current unit for the Non Vacuum tubed one and paying for the wiring harness. URD wanted me to send back the old unit, take my money and still not tell me what to do with the vacuum tube! I don't think so.

I understand the guy is busy (hey aren't we all) but I had a lot of problems, left him many messages and emails. He couldn't even get me on the phone once. Due to the positive experiences others had I gave this guy way too many chances. Terrible customer experience with URD. Consider yourself warned.

URD would do well to take a page from UniChip that's where I am going.

Brokentusk I wish I had spoke to you before my repair bill! I'd be more than happy to see that documentation if you are willing to send it my way.

On the bottom of the install instructions that come with the MAF/MAP in red state "connect the Vacuum line to the intake manifold post throttle valve to provide the proper load scale". The map is most beneficial for those with turbo's and those that are deep in tuning. It is not a necessity for those that are super charged. I questioned G before I purchased as I was curios as to the difference. I also have the MAP and it serves no real purpose as of yet but at least gives me a way to monitor manifold pressure. You are basically supposed to tap into the manifold and run a vauum line to the unit to get proper readings, easy enough with a trip to the local auto part store.

And that is why I wrote this review. If I can save anyone else the headache I went through this review is worth it. Unfortunately, that one line of vague instructions might as well have been written in Latin. It was not helpful for me. Provided proper instructions I can follow them. The instructions included with this unit were downright terrible. BrokenTusk was kind enough to send me documentation which was created by URD. In it are very detailed instructions on the install of the MAF Unit with the Vacuum tube (complete with graphic illustration). I can't answer why that documentation wasn't sent to me or included by URD. They've got the ability to post it on the Extra tab on their product website (just like UniChip does). Seems like it would save them some trouble and answer a whole ton of questions.

Regardless, I am moving on from this unit. This MAF Calibrator is available for $175. I'll go post that elsewhere. Thanks for all the the folks that offered me assistance and constructive advice here. Its appreciated.
