it really depends on what kind of horn you want. a"real"(google- airchime) train horn is a pretty big item.
the so called train horns on the market come in many different sizes but usually the smaller you get the higher pitch tone you get(sounds less like a train).the bigger ones are really a pain in the ass on our trucks. what ever you do make sure you angle the bell down slightly so water cant build up in it. you also have to think about an airsource.
take measurements of where you plan on mounting everything before you buy it!

the size of the horns will determine where you can put them...i have a really really cheap set of air horns (wouldn't call them train horns). they are only about 30 decible louder than stock and run directly off of their own miniature compressor. i got them to fit right under the hood.

the thing to remember is that they are pretty directional. mine don't sound loud at all in the cab or behind the truck, but in front of the truck they deffinately get your attention. I was going to put my facing down, right behind the grill until i found this out. of course if you get a real train horn setup, direction will not be an issue lol

lol, thay aren't really train horns, just air horns. they are a very cheap set you can get from harbour freight. thing is, i'm a tinkerer, so i'm in the process of taking a cheap set and making it better. the pitch is determined by the length/size of the trumpet, so i'm modifying the old ones/making new ones that will lower the pitch. here's a picture of the current setup. i will keep the black part (part that makes the noise), and i'm working on the red trumpets themselves.

I have the Siege Engineering Hammer III Kit and love it.

I mounted the horns under the truck attached to the frame. They are right behind the transfer case so they are somewhat protected. Definitely not ideal, but being a 3 trumpet kit, I didn't have room anywhere else.

are all three horns mounted together, or could you split them up for more mounting options?

All three together. The hammer III doesn't allow you to separate the 3 pieces. Definitely a downside to the kit.

I have a similar set of horns on mine. I mounted the trumpets on the support bar between the grill and radiator and pointed them down. The pitch is higher than I like, but they are definately loud...... The package they came in states they are 135 db. I got them on ebay for less than $20.
